PREFACE.

THE rapid progress and development of phar

macy makes a new edition of our Quiz Compend necessary, as we desire to keep it, as heretofore, a standard work of its kind. The liberal sale the former editions met with convinces us that this work meets a long-felt want, and we shall take the occasion of this revision to improve the book in many respects, and hope to make it invaluable to pharmaceutical students for daily reference in the store, as well as for those preparing for an examination. It is not our object to teach new facts, but to bring points and technicalities of the drug business to the mind in a condensed form, to assist the student in memorizing them. We omit, as out of place in a condensed work of this kind, formulæ and descriptions of the preparations of the pharmacopæia, which make up the bulk of most Quiz Compends, and for such matter refer you to the proper textbooks, which every one should have at hand.
