MODERN THERAPEUTICS OF THE DISEASES OF CHILDREN, with Observations on the Hygiene of Infancy. By Joseph F. Edwards, M. D., Editor of the Annals of Hygiene; Associate Editor of the Medical and Surgical Reporter; Author of Bright's Disease and Its Treatment; Fellow of the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Philadelphia, etc. Philadelphia: D. G. Brinton, 1885.

We have carefully examined the volume before us, on the Diseases of Children, and take the greatest pleasure in recommending it to our medical friends. Although we have neither time nor space in this notice, to present an elaborate analysis of its contents, nor give any details in regard to the list of eminent specialists whose contributions on this subject appear in this work, let it suffice that they are among the most eminent in the profession both Foreign and American.

CREMATION. Scientifically and Religiously Considered. By Henry Houston Bonnell Philadelphia: Press of D. C. Chalfant. 1885.

SCHOOL HYGIENE IN TENNESSEE. Reprint from the Committee's Report of the State Board of Health, 1885. By Daniel F. Wright, M. D., Clarksville, Tenn. Member of the State Board of Health and Chairman of its Committee on the subject.

PERILS OF AMERICAN WOMEN: or, A Doc-
tor's Talk with Maiden, Wife and Mother.
By G. L. Austin, M. D. 250 pp. Ill. Full
Gilt. $2.00. Boston: Lee and Shepard.

The professed object of this work, designed especially for women, is to make plain those laws of their being, which will enable them to ward off disease and those

failings which nearly all our American women suffer physically. It teaches them to shun the fearful consequences of indiscretion, and how to be healthier but better in every sense. The application of medical terms would only lead to confusion and confound those who read them, so the author has written this work in a language that can be fully understood, and, by reference to the illustrations, made as plain as it could possibly be. The prescriptions are written in plain English. The work is heartily endorsed by Mrs. Mary A. Livermore, and contains her autograph letter.

It will be sold by female canvassers only, and the publishers would like to have an intelligent woman in every town in the United States to take orders, and only those who can give testimonials as to character and standing are wanted.

PEPTOGENIC MILK POWDER.

By means of this digestive powder, with the very simple and practical process originated and perfected by us, the caseine of cow's milk is modified and pre-digested, and other essential components so supplied as to yield a product almost identical in physiological, chemical and physical properties with human milk.

"Yields a humanised milk which in taste, physical characters, and chemical constitution approaches very closely to woman's milk."

WM. R. WARNER & CO., Chemists,

PHILADELPHIA.

This combination has not heretofore been published. It has been extensively used in the practice of physicians of this city, and with the most satisfactory results.

It is the remedy PAR EXCELLENCE for Chronic Blennorrhæa, uncomplicated with organic stricture, very frequently effecting a speedy cure in gleet of long standing.

It is also almost equally serviceable as a remedy for cystirrhœa and inflammation of whatever kind affecting the urinary or sexual organs.

These pills have been used successfully in the treatment of Chronic Gastritis; in fact, they are indicated wherever inflammation of the mucous membrane of internal organs exists.

Tongaline

Liquor Tongae Salicylatus

THE NEW REMEDY FOR NEURALGIA AND RHEUMATISM.

Tonga is a product of the Tonga or Friendly Islands, and has long been used as a domestic remedy by the natives of the Fiji Group. It was introduced to the notice of the medical profession by Drs. Ringer and Murrell, of London, England, who have made some very thorough and most Batisfactory experiments as to its therapeutic value.

Tongaline is a combination of Tonga with powerful salicylates, whereby the remedial properties

of the Tonga are secured and increased. Each fluid drachm of Songatine represents: Tonga, 30 grains; Extractum Cimicifuga Racemosa, 2 grains; Sodium Salicylate, 10 grs.; Pilocarpin Salicylate, 1-100 grain; Colchicin Salicylate, 1-500 grain. It is taken internally and intended to reach the cause of the complaint, not merely to allay the symptoms. Contains no opium in any form whatsoever. Is attended with no injurious nor unpleasant reactionary effects. DOSE: Teaspoonful. In acute cases every hour until pain ceases, then discontinue. In chronic forms, four to six times per day at regular intervals. To prevent recurrence, every two hours.

St. Paul, Minn., Nov. 16, 1883.

I am prescribing Songatine with satisfactory results. For the indefinite aches and pains of nervous patients it is superior to any other anodyne. For nervous headache or muscular rheumatism it is almost a specific.

PARK RITCHIE, M.D.

Cleveland, Ohio, July 30, 1883. I have used your preparation, Songatine, extensively, and have been well satisfied with its results. You are to be congratulated on the value of the article which you offer to physicians. R. A. VANCE, M.D.

Plainfield, N. J., March 11, 1884. Have used Songatine constantly for some months both in private and hospital practice, and found it all I could have desired.

Have used ongatine in cases of neuralgic

In strictly neuralgic forms it is unexcelled.

DR. MCDADE'S PRESCRIPTION

For Venereal and Cutaneous Diseases.

IN PINT BOTTLES, 81.25 PER PINT. 812.00 PER DOZEN.

FORMULA.

Fluid Extract Smilax Sarsaparilla, Fluid Extract Stillingia Sylvatica, Fluid Extract Lappa Minor. Fluid Extract Phytolacca Decandra, aa, two ounces, Tincture Xanthoxylum Carolinianum, one ounce. Mix.-Take a teaspoonful iu water three times a day before meals, and gradually increase to tablespoonful doses.

CAUTION.

"In making the fluid Extracts there is a great risk of getting a remedy less efficient than the original Indian decoction, because the manufacturer may use roots that have been kept too long, and lost some of their active principles; while the decoction used on the plantation was always made of fresh roots just gathered from the woods. In making the Fluid Extraets, we should therefore, be careful to have them made from the roots recently gathered."(Extract from British Med. Four.)

REMARKS.

THE WM. S. MERRELL CHEMICAL Co., of Cincinnati, offer the formula of DR. MCDADE, prepared in accordance with the principles so strenuously held by them for more than thirty years, viz: that the volatile elements of many plants are dissipated by the drying process, thereby injuring, if not wholly destroying, their medicinal properties. The use of fresh drugs in all cases is therefore a necessity, in order to secure reliable preparations. Please specify "DR. MCDADE'S Prescription" (Merrell) in pint bottles.
