And all who contemplate Building.

T is now a well acknowledged fact, that in this age of progress it has become as necessary for an Architect or Builder to have a variety of Practical Architectural Designs to show their customers, as it is for the merchant to have a fil stock of the latest and most desirable goods.

Numerous testimonials from our regular customers assure us that those who take the advantage of the facilities we offer are making from one to five thousand dollars by patronizing us to the extent of ten, twenty or thirty dollars; and with this assurance and appreciation of our efforts to compile, prepare and furnish the latest and most mode: designs for buildings of various kinds we still hope to bring out many valuable him and suggestions for the private and professional builder. Those who contemplate builċing can decide upon a plan much more intelligently and satisfactorily by first consulting one or more of our publications on elevations and plans.

The Supplement to the VILLAGE BUILDER is especially adapted to the wants of those who intend to build a Suburban or Country Home, costing from fifteen hurdred to five thousand dollars. Five dollars expended for this work will, if propery studied, suggest many valuable ideas, and thereby save time, money, material and many of the perplexities of building without a well considered plan. The variety

of designs given are sufficient to fully meet the wants of many, but when changes are desired, WE WILL FURNISH, AT REASONABLE RATES, ANY SPECIAL PLAN AND DETAILS, OR

MAKE ANY ALTERATIONS IN ANY PLAN OR ELEVATION THAT WE PUBLISH OR OFFER FOR SALE

The VILLAGE BUILDER contains a great variety of designs for plain and elaborate private and public buildings, therefore is better suited to the Builder or Architect.

The PRACTICAL STAIR BUILDER, if properly studied, will enable the new beginner to execute with a certainty the most difficult designs in this special art of carpentry.

Architecture, the work of details, is indispensable to the Carpenter and Jobber that wishes to become a master of his profession. MODERN AMERICAN ARCHITECTURE, by Cummings & Miller, (the Authors of Architecture), has for a few months been out of print, but in consideration of the steady demand for it, we have been induced to re-publish a limited edition, which we are now ready to supply.

Our entire list of books on Architecture, Carpentry and Building are valuable, containing a great amount of information at a reasonable cost. Our facilities are such that we furnish, at publishers' rates, all American Architectural or Scientific Bocks not on our list, and promptly import, to order, any Book or Journal not found in the New York market. We also supply Drawing Papers, Tracing Cloth, Mathematical Instruments, and Sibley's Improved Leveling Instrument, which is valuable substitute for one costing five times as much; and in this connection we would state that the price of this Instrument will be advanced on the first of July next, as at the present price it does not afford a fair margin for the inventor or manufacturer, and our margin is such that we do not offer to send it by express with bill for collection.

Orders for Books amounting to ten dollars or upwards are sent to regular customers, C. O. D., if desired, although this manner of shipment always costs the purchaser fifty cents to two dollars more than when cash accompanies orders, as we pay the postage or express on all American Books paid for in advance. We can deliver a package at any post or express office for about the amount of express charges for bringing ten dollars to us, which amount we pay on C. O. D. packages, the purchaser paying express one way.

As heretofore, we most urgently request that all remittances be made by P. 0. order, Draft on N. Y. Registry System, or by Express. Our patrons will please give notice of change of residence, and in making orders or inquiries, be particular to write name, P. O., county and state in a disinct hand. The recent request of the P. M. General that the county should be given in all cases should be strictly adhered to. NEW YORK, April, 1872. A. J. BICKNELL & CO.

N. B.-If this Catalogue is not valuable to you, or if you receive a duplicate, please give it to some one interested in building, and oblige, A. J. B. & CO.

A. J. BICKNELL & CO., Publishers,

27 WARREN STREET, NEW YORK,

BICKNELL'S VILLAGE BUILDER.

Several years experience in the sale of Architectural Books has taught us that in bringing out a practical work on Architecture, it is necessary to include a great variety of styles of buildings, and in presenting this volume to the public, we feel assured that it is better adapted to the North, South, East and West, than any previous production of similar character.

Several well known Architects, whose names will be found in the work in connection with the description of plates, have aided us in perfecting this book. It has been our object in the selection of designs principally to include buildings of moderate cost; although we have introduced several claborate specimens, all of which are suggestive, and can be plainly executed for much less than the given cost.

The estimates are made at the various localities where the designs have been prepared. The work is made up of elevations, plans and details of cottages, villas and suburban houses: and model designs for churches, court houses and other public and private buildings.

The elevations are mostly drawn on a scale one-eighth, one-twelfth, or one-sixteenth; the details on a scale one-half to three-fourths of an inch to the foot, all of which can be easily comprehended and executed.

The demand for previous publications that we have brought to public notice is an evidence of the increasing want of such a work as the “VILLAGE Builder" which is not characterized by the style of any one author or locality, but is general in its adaptation.
