Arrest of fugitives from justice.

For the payment of extraordinary expenses, to be expended under the direction of the governor and council, a sum not exceeding fifteen thousand dollars.

For the preparation of tables and indexes relating to the statutes of the present and previous years, under the direction of the governor, a sum not exceeding five hundred dollars.

For expenses incurred in the arrest of fugitives from justice, a sum not exceeding one thousand dollars.

SECTION 2. This act shall take effect upon its passage.

Be it enacted, etc., as follows:

SECTION 1. The sums hereinafter mentioned are appropriated, to be paid out of the treasury of the Commonwealth from the ordinary revenue, for the purposes specified, to meet expenses for the year ending on the thirty-first day of December in the year eighteen hundred and ninety-eight, to wit:

For the salary of the attorney-general, five thousand dollars.

For the compensation of assistants in the office of the attorney-general, and for such additional legal assistance as he may deem necessary in the discharge of his duties, and also for other necessary expenses in his department, a sum not exceeding thirty-six thousand dollars. SECTION 2. This act shall take effect upon its passage. Approved January 28, 1898.

SECTION 1. The sums hereinafter mentioned are appropriated, to be paid out of the treasury of the Commonwealth from the ordinary revenue, for the purposes specified, to meet expenses for the year ending on the thirty-first day of December in the year eighteen hundred and ninety-eight, to wit:

For the salary of the chairman of the commissioners of savings banks, thirty-five hundred dollars.

For the salaries of the two associate commissioners Associate of savings banks, three thousand dollars each.

For the salaries of the two special agents of the bureau of statistics of labor, twenty-four hundred dollars.

For such additional clerical assistance and for such expenses of the bureau of statistics of labor as may be necessary, a sum not exceeding six thousand dol

lars.

For expenses in connection with the annual collection of statistics of manufactures, a sum not exceeding sixtyfive hundred dollars.

For contingent expenses of the bureau of statistics of labor, to be expended under the direction of the sergeantat-arms, a sum not exceeding five hundred dollars.

For rent of rooms for the use of the bureau of statistics of labor, and for services of a janitor, a sum not exceeding three thousand dollars.

For rent of rooms for the bureau of statistics of labor for storage purposes, a sum not exceeding five hundred and fifty dollars.

For rent of additional rooms for the use of the bureau of statistics of labor for such period of time as may be required for the purposes of the decennial census, a sum not exceeding twenty-five hundred dollars.

For expenses in connection with taking a special census in towns having an increased resident population during the summer months, a sum not exceeding three hundred and fifty dollars.

SECTION 2.

This act shall take effect upon its passage.

The sum of forty thousand dollars is Worcester hereby appropriated, to be paid out of the treasury of the Commonwealth from the ordinary revenue, to be expended at the Worcester lunatic hospital, under the direction of the trustees thereof, for the erection of new buildings, as provided for by chapter eighty-one of the resolves of the year eighteen hundred and ninety-seven. The sum of ten thousand dollars is hereby appropriated, to be paid out of the treasury of the Commonwealth from the ordinary revenue, for the Massachusetts State Firemen's Association, as provided for by chapter one hundred and seventy-seven of the acts of the year eighteen hundred and ninety-two.

SECTION 2. This act shall take effect upon its passage.
