John 7:17.

Matt. 7: 24.

out devils? and in thy name have done many wonderful works?

Wherefore then didst thou not OBEY the voice of the LORD, but didst fly upon the spoil, and didst evil in the sight of the LORD?

And Saul said unto Samuel: Yea, I have obeyed the voice of the LORD, and have gone the way which the LORD sent me, and have brought Agag the king of Amalek, and have utterly destroyed the Amalekites.

But the people took of the spoil, sheep and oxen, the chief of the things which should have been utterly destroyed, to sacrifice unto the LORD thy God in Gilgal.

And Samuel said, Hath the LORD as great delight in burnt offerings, as in obeying the voice of the LORD? Behold, to obey, is better than sacrifice: and to hearken, than the fat of rams.

For rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft, and stubbornness is as iniquity and idolatry: because thou hast rejected the word of the LORD, he hath also rejected thee from being king.

If any man will do his will, he shall know of the doctrine, whether it be of God, or whether I speak of myself.

Therefore, whosoever heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them, I will liken him unto a wise man, which built his house upon a rock :

And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house: and it fell not, for it was founded on a rock.

And every one that heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them not, shall be likened unto a foolish man, which built his house upon the sand:

And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house, and it fell, and great was the fall of it.

III. TO FEAR GOD.

there arise among you a prophet, or a dreamer of Deut. 13. 1. dreams, and giveth thee a sign, or a wonder:

And the sign or the wonder come to pass, whereof he spake unto thee, saying, Let us go after other gods (which thou hast not known) and let us serve them:

Thou shalt not hearken unto the words of that prophet, or that dreamer of dreams: for the LORD your God proveth you, to know whether you love the LORD your God with all your heart, and with all your soul.

Ye shall walk after the LORD your God, and FEAR him, and keep his commandments, and obey his voice, and you shall serve him, and cleave unto him.

Thou shalt FEAR the LORD thy God; him shalt thou serve, and to him shalt thou cleave, and swear by his name.

He is thy praise, and he is thy God that hath done for thee these great and terrible things, which thine eyes have

seen.

Eccl. 12: 13.

Let all the earth FEAR the LORD: let all the inhabitants of the world stand in awe of him.

And I saw another Angel fly in the midst of heaven, having the everlasting Gospel, to preach unto them that dwell on the earth, and to every nation, and kindred, and tongue, and people.

Saying with a loud voice, FEAR God, and give glory to him, for the hour of his judgment is come: and worship him that made heaven and earth, and the sea, and the fountains of waters.

And they sing the song of Moses the servant of God, and the song of the Lamb, saying, Great and marvellous are thy works, Lord God Almighty, just and true are thy ways, thou king of saints.

Who shall not FEAR thee, O Lord, and glorify thy name? for thou only art holy: for all nations shall come and worship before thee, for thy judgments are made manifest.

Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: FEAR God, and keep his commandments, for this is the whole duty of man.

For God shall bring every work into judgment, with every secret thing, whether it be good, or whether it be evil.

THOU

[blocks in formation]

HOU shalt fear the LORD thy God; him shalt thou SERVE, and to him shalt thou cleave, and swear by his name.

Now therefore, fear the LORD, and SERVE him in sincerity, and in truth, and put away the gods which your fathers served on the other side of the flood, and in Egypt: and SERVE ye the LORD.

And if it seem evil unto you to serve the LORD, choose you this day whom ye will serve, whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the flood, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land ye dwell: but as for me and my house, we will SERVE the LORD.

And the people answered and said, God forbid that we should forsake the LORD, to serve other gods.

For the LORD our God, he it is that brought us up and our fathers out of the land of Egypt, from the house of bondage, and which did those great signs in our sight, and preserved us in all the way wherein we went, and among all the people through whom we passed.

Blessed be the Lord God of Israel, for he hath visited Luke 1: 68° and redeemed his people,

That we should be saved from our enemies, and from the hand of all that hate us,

To perform the mercy promised to our fathers, and to remember his holy Covenant,

The oath which he sware to our father Abraham,

That he would grant unto us, that we being delivered out of the hands of our enemies, might SERVE him without fear,

In holiness and righteousness before him, all the days of our life.

I: 71.

And thou, Solomon, my son, know thou the God of 1 Chr. 28: 9. thy father, and SERVE him with a perfect heart, and with a willing mind: for the LORD searcheth all hearts, and understandeth all the imaginations of the thoughts: if thou seek him, he will be found of thee, but if thou forsake him, he will cast thee off for ever.

But take diligent heed, to do the Commandment and the Josh. 22: 5. Law, which Moses the servant of the LORD charged you, to love the LORD your God, and to walk in all his ways, and to keep his Commandments, and to cleave unto him, and to SERVE him with all your heart, and with all your soul.

Deut. 11: 13.

Is. 60: 12.

Mal. 3: 10.

No servant can SERVE two masters, for either he will hate the one, and love the other: or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other: ye cannot SERVE God and

mammon.

And Samuel spake unto all the house of Israel, saying, If ye do return unto the LORD with all your hearts, then put away the strange gods, and Ashtaroth from among you, and prepare your hearts unto the LORD, and SERVE him only: and he will deliver you out of the hand of the Philistines.

And it shall come to pass, if you shall hearken diligently unto my commandments which I command you this day, to love the LORD your God, and to SERVE him with all your heart, and with all your soul;

That I will give you the rain of your land in his due season, the first rain and the latter rain, that thou mayest gather in thy corn, and thy wine, and thine oil.

And I will send grass in thy fields for thy cattle, that thou mayest eat and be full.

Take heed to yourselves, that your heart be not deceived, and ye turn aside, and SERVE other gods, and worship them:

And then the LORD'S wrath be kindled against you, and he shut up the heaven, and there be no rain, and that the land yield not her fruit, and lest ye perish quickly from off the good land which the LORD giveth you.

For the nation and kingdom that will not SERVE thee, shall perish, yea those nations shall be utterly wasted.

Bring ye all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be meat in mine house, and prove me now herewith, saith the LORD of hosts, if I will not open you the windows of heaven, and pour you out a blessing, that there shall not be room enough to receive it.

And I will rebuke the devourer for your sakes: and he shall not destroy the fruits of your ground, neither shall
