Arphaxad two Years after the Flood, and lived after five hundred Years.

Arphaxad begat Salah, Salah begat Eber, Eber begat Peleg, Peleg begat Reu, Reu begat Serug, Serug begat Nahor, Nahor begat TERAH.

26 And Terah lived feventy Years and begat ABRAM, Nahor and Haran, and Haran begat Lot.

29 And Abram and Nahor took them Wives; and the Name of Abram's Wife was Sarai.

30 But Sarai was barren; fhe had no Child.

31 And Terah took ABRAM, and Lot and Sarai, and they went forth with them from Ur of the Chaldees, to go into the Land of Canaan; and they came unto Haran, and dwelt there.

32 And the Days of Terah were two hundred and five Years and Terah died in Haran.

The Third Period:

From the Call of Abram to the Deliverance of the Ifraelites from the Egyptian Bondage, containing about the Space of 430 Years.

CHA P. XII.

1 Gon calleth Abram, and bleffeth him with a Promife of CHRIST. 4 He departeth with Lot from Haran. 6 He journeyeth through Canaan, 7 which is promised him in a Vifion. 10 He is driven by a Famine into Egypt. 11 Fear maketh him feign his Wife to be his Sifter. 14 Pharaoh having taken her from him, by Plagues is compelled to restore

her.

OWe the LORD had faid unto Abram, Get thee out of thy Countrey, and from thy Kindred, and from thy FATHER'S HOUSE into a Land that I will SHEW thee.

2 And I will make of thee a great Nation, and I will blefs thee, and make thy Name great; and thou fhalt be a Bleffing.

3 And I will bless them that blefs thee, and curfe him that curfeth thee and in thee fhall all Families of theEARTH

be BLESSED.

Heb. xi. 8 By FAITH ABRAHAM when he was CALLED to go out into a Place which he fhould after receive for an INHERITANCE, obeyed; and he went out not knowing whither he

went.

9 By FAITH he SOJOURNED in the Land of PROMISE, as in a STRANGE Countrey, dwelling in Tabernacles with Ifaac and Jacob, the HEIRS with him of the fame PROMISE.

To For he looked for a CITY which

hath Foundations, whofe BUILDER

and Maker is God.

15 And truly if they had been MINDFUL of that COUNTREY, from whence they came out, they might have had Opportunity to have RE

TURNED.

16 But now they DESIRE a BETTER Countrey, that is, an HEAVENLY:

wherefore GOD is not alhamed to be

called their GOD: for he hath prepared for them a CITY.

4 So Abram departed, as him; and Lot went with him five Years old when he departed

5 And Abram took Sarai his Wife, and Lot his Brother's Son, and all their Substance that they had gathered, and the Souls that they had gotten in Haran; and they went forth to go into the Land of Canaan, and into the Land of Canaan they came.

6 f And Abram paffed thro' the Land into the Place of Sichem, into the Plain of Moreh. And the Canaanite was then in the Land.

7 And the LORD APPEARED unto Abram, and said, Unto thy SEED will I give this Land, and there builded he an Altar unto the LORD, Who APPEARED unto him.

The GOD of Glory APPEARED unto our Father ABRAHAM, when he was in Mefopotamia, before he dwelt in Charran,

3 And faid unto him, Get thee out of thy COUNTREY, and from thy Kindred, and come into the Land which

I fhall SHEW thee.

4 Then came he out of the Land of the Chaldeans, and dwelt in Charran: and from thence, when his Fa

ther was dead, he removed him into this Land wherein ye now dwell.

s And he gave him none INHER ITANCE in it, no not fo much as to fet his Foot on yet he PROMISED that he would give it him for a PosSESSION, and to his SEED after him, when as yet he had no CHILD.

8 And he removed from thence unto a Mountain on the East of Beth-el, and pitched his Tent, having Beth-el on the West, and Hai on the Eaft and there he builded an Altar unto the LORD, and called upon the Name of the LORD.

9 And Abram journeyed, going on ftill toward the South. 10 And there was a Famine in the Land and Abram went down into Egypt to fojourn there; for the Famine was grievous in the Land.

11 And it came to pafs, when he was come near to enter into Egypt, that he faid unto Sarai his Wife, Behold, now I know that thou art a FAIR Woman to look upon.

12 Therefore it fhall come to pafs, when the Egyptians fhall fee thee, that they fhall fay, This is his Wife: and they will kill me, but they will fave thee alive.

13 Say, I pray thee, thou art my Sifter: that it may be well with me for thy Sake; and my Soul fhall live because of thee.

14 And it came to pafs, that when Abram was come into Egypt, the Egyptians beheld the Woman, that SHE was

VERY FAIR.

15 The Princes also of Pharaoh faw her, and commended her before Pharaoh and the Woman was taken into Pharaoh's House.

178 And the LORD PLAGUED Pharaoh and his House with great Plagues, because of Sarai Abram's Wife.

18 And Pharaoh called Abram, and faid, What is this that thou haft done unto me? Why didft thou not tell me that she was thy Wife? 19 Why faidft thou, She is my Sifter? fo I might have taken her to me to Wife: now therefore behold thy Wife, take her, and go thy Way.

20 And Pharaoh commanded his Men concerning him; and they fent him away, and his Wife, and all that he had.

CHAP. XIII,

■ Abram and Lot return out of Egypt. 7 By Difagreement they part afunder. 10 Lot goeth to Sodom. 14 GOD reneweth the Promife to Abram. 18 He removeth to Hebron, and there buildeth an Altar.

ND the LORD faid unto Abram after that Lot was feparated from him, Lift up now thine Eyes, and look from the Place where thou art, North-ward, and South-ward, and Eaft-ward, and Weft-ward.

15 For all the LAND which thou feeft, to thee will I GIVE it, and to thy SEED for ever.

16 And I will make thy Seed as the Duft of the Earth: fo that if a Man can NUMBER the Duft of the Earth, then fhall thy Seed also be NUMBRED.

17 Arife, walk through the Land in the Length of it, and in the Breadth of it: for I will give it unto thee.

18 Then Abram removed his Tent, and came and dwelt in the Plain of Mamre, which is in Hebron, and built there an ALTAR unto the LORD.

CHAP. XIV,

The Battle of four Kings against five. 12 Lot is taken Prifoner: 14 Abram refueth him. 18 Melchifedek bleffeth 20 Abram giveth him Tithe. 22 The rest of the

Spoil, his Partners having had their Portions, he refloreth to the King of Sodom.

AND the King of

Sodom went out to meet Abram (after his Return from the Slaughter of Chedorlaomer, and of the Kings that were with him) at the Valley of Shaveh, which is the King's Dale.

18 And MELCHISEDEK King of SALEM brought forth Bread and Wine: and he was the PRIEST of the MOST HIGH GOD.

19 And he BLESSED him, and faid, Bleffed be Abram of the MOST HIGH GOD, Poffeffor of Heaven and Earth:

20 And bleffed be the MOST HIGH GOD, which hath delivered thine Enemies into thy Hand. And he gave him Tithes of all.

returning from the Slaughter of the Kings, and bleffed him:

4 Now confider how great this Man was, unto whom even the Patriarch Abraham gave the Tenth of the Spoils:

5 And verily they that are of the of the Priesthood, have a CommandSons of Levi, who receive the Office ment to take Tithes of the People according to the Law, that is, of of the Loyns of Abraham: their Brethren, though they come out

6 But he whole DESCENT is not

counted from them, received Tithes had the Promites. of Abraham, and bleffed him that

21 And the King of Sodom faid unto Abram, Give me the Perfons, and take the Goods to thy felf.

22 And Abram faid to the King of Sodom, I have lift up mine Hand unto the LORD, the MOST HIGH GOD, the Poffeffor of Heaven and Earth,

23 That I will not take from a Thread even to a Shoelatchet, and that I will not take any thing that is thine, left thou shouldt fay, I have made Abram rich:

24 Save only that which the young Men have eaten, and the Portion of the Men which went with me, Aner, Efhcol, and Mamre; let them take their Portion.

CHAP. XV.

GOD encourageth Abram. 2 Abram complaingth for want of an Heir. 4 GOD promifeth him a Son, and a multiplying of his Seed. 6 Abram is justified by Faith.
