COMBINED STATEMENT OF THE RECEIPTS AND DISBURSEMENTS, BALANCES, ETC., OF THE UNITED STATES DURING THE FISCAL YEAR ENDED JUNE 30, 1913. TREASURY DEPARTMENT, DIVISION OF BOOKKEEPING AND WARRANTS. SIR: I have the honor to submit herewith detailed statements of the receipts and disbursements of the Government during the fiscal year ended June 30, 1913, as follows: The receipts into the general fund derived by the Government from customs, internal revenue including corporation tax, sales of public lands, in each district and State, and from miscellaneous sources, amounted to $724,111,229.84. The receipts on account of the public debt were, from postal savings bonds $1,929,840, and from deposits for retirement of national-bank notes $21,471,010, making a total of receipts, exclusive of postal revenue receipts, of $747,512,079.84. The disbursements for ordinary and extraordinary purposes, other than those for the Panama Canal and public debt, amounted to $682,770,705.51. The disbursements for the Panama Canal were $41,741,258.03, and for the public debt-retirement of national-bank notes and miscellaneous redemptions $24,191,610.50, making the total disbursements, exclusive of postal service payable from the postal revenues, $748,703,574.04. The ordinary receipts of $724,111,229.84 were in excess of the ordinary disbursements of $682,770,705.51 in the sum of $41,340,524.33. Taking into account the receipts and disbursements for the public debt and payments made for the Panama Canal, the total disbursements exceeded the total receipts $1,191,494.20. In the gold-reserve fund there were redemptions of $67,850,957 United States notes and $67,830 Treasury notes of 1890 for gold. As the notes were at once exchanged for gold in the general fund, the reserve was maintained at the fixed sum of $150,000,000. In the trust funds, reserved against gold and silver certificates and Treasury notes of 1890, there were $872,682,000 of certificates issued and $824,060,200 of certificates and Treasury notes of 1890 redeemed, resulting in an increase of $48,621,800 in these funds during the year. The postal revenue receipts amounted to $266,619,525.65, and the expenditures therefrom for the postal service were $262,108,874.74, an excess of receipts of $4,510,650.91. Respectfully, Hon. W. G. McADOO, CHAS. H. MILLER, Chief of Division of Bookkeeping and Warrants, Secretary of the Treasury. |
