OPINIONS OF THE PRESS AS TO CADBURY'S CHOCOLATE.

A FOOD alike suitable for building up the growing body, and for repairing the waste incidental to all the processes of life."-Health.

[ocr errors]

The standard of highest purity at present attainable in cocoa."Lancet.

"Of absolute purity and freedom from alkali."-Retrospect of Medicine. "Cocoa, treated thus, will, we expect, prove to be one of the most nutritious, digestible, and restorative of drinks."-British Medical Journal.

"We have examined the samples brought under our notice, and find that they are genuine, and that the Essence of Cocoa is just what it is declared to be by Messrs. Cadbury Brothers."-The Lancet.

[ocr errors]

"We believe that the description which the inventors give is a true one, and that the Cocoa Essence' is an agreeable and economical preparation. A little of it goes a great way, and, besides its own nutritive qualities, is as refreshing to the mouth as the 'rough cup of black tea," which many persons desire for their morning draught.

"We may say, in conclusion, that Cadbury's Cocoa Essence' seems so cheap that it might be introduced into many boarding schools, in lieu of the discolored watery liquid which is served out under the misused name of tea."-The Medical Times and Gazette.

"There is one thing to be said in favor of our principal cocoa manufacturers, that they seldom advertise these powdered cocoas as genuine; they either leave out that important word altogether, or call them 'prepared cocoas; and this word should be borne in mind by those who wish to avoid the prepared and to obtain the real article, and are consequently ready to pay a fair price for such; those who wish for pure cocoa in a convenient form, should, therefore, obtain the Cocoa Essence."-Nature. "We have much pleasure in bringing to the notice of the public and the medical profession Messrs. Cadbury's concentrated preparation, which we have ventured to call Cadbury's Concentrated Vegetable Milk."

"Tea, coffee and cocoa all contain much in common, but cocoa is the most nutritious beverage of the three, and the one which approaches the nearest to milk in its ultimate composition."

"The excess of fatty matter has been carefully eliminated by Messrs. Cadbury, and thus a compound remains which is suitable for all digestions, and which conveys in a minimum bulk a maximum amount of nutriment. We strongly recommend Cadbury's Cocoa Essence' as a diet for children, and as a constituent in the diet roll of all public and private establishments." -Medical Mirror.

The Chattanooga Vibrator.-Members of the profession, who write to the Vibrator Instrument Co., of Chattanooga, Tenn., for a copy of their complete catalogue, giving particulars as to the various uses of their apparatus, will be well repaid for their trouble. This firm are anxious to make known to medical men, as widely as possible, the value of the Chattanooga Vibrator, and, as can be noted from the short article appearing on page 360 of our May (1904) issue, it is an apparatus that in a large number of cases can and does materially aid in treatment. The firm's address is Chatnooga, Tennessee, U.S.

DERMOPHILE UNDERWEAR.

THE Nineteenth Century has another discovery to its credit, which, as many others, is only for the benefit of humanity. It was a long search; but science overcomes all barriers, as is proven once more by the finding of the process making wool unshrinkable. We all know how disappointing it is to buy fine wool underwear and find, after the first or second washing, the garment shrunk to such an extent that it is practically ruined. In introducing the Dermophile" underwear the manufacturers are convinced that it answers all requirements, i.e., it wears well, keeps the body warm, prevents rheumatism, and does not shrink any more than silk or cotton when washed.

[ocr errors]

The process which the goods undergo strengthens the fibre of the wool, and is beneficial to the skin; hence the name "Dermophile," which is derived from the Greek and means friend to the skin.

Before putting them before the public the goods have been thoroughly tested and tried as to their healthfulness, by physicians, both in Europe and America; and the makers therefore can guarantee that the body will be benefited in being protected by "Dermophile" underwear, which is made of the finest and best selected Australian undyed wool.

It is a well known fact that wool is the proper thing to wear next to the skin, especially in countries where the changes in temperature are frequent and sudden. Besides the features referred to above the goods are made at prices which will enable all to buy "Dermophile" underwear, and be benefited by its qualities.

The "Dermophile" underwear is sold at prices not higher than goods of similar character and quality, and is guaranteed to be made of absolutely pure wool and not to shrink. All goods not proving so may be returned, and money will be refunded. Thus in fact it is cheaper than other articles sold

at same price.

The "Dermophile" underwear is made for men, women and children, in four different weights, to suit all temperatures.

A Mineral Water Specially Suitable for Invalids.-The Diamond Park Mineral Water Co., Limited, of Arnprior, controls a spring from which flows a natural mineral water that, as the name would indicate, can assist in giving health and strength to those physically run down. Diamond Park is picturesquely located in " Peaceful Valley," on the banks of the winding Madawaska River, only two miles from Arnprior. The park is reached by a pleasant drive of about twenty minutes over good roads by stage and omnibuses. Nestling at the foot of a high hill, and surrounded by a lovely grove of shade trees, is the famous Alpha Springs, the source of "Sanitaris," the waters of which come pouring up from the bowels of the earth in a constant never-failing stream, cold as ice and clear as crystal. The curative properties of this spring have been known to the Indians and the lumbermen in the neighborhood of the Madawaska River for over 100 years, and has been used by them for many diseases to which mankind is heir. There are many witnesses living who can attest the value of this water in cases apparently unaffected by ordinary remedies. "Sanitaris" mineral water is filtered, and then charged with gas, and is one of the most palatable waters obtainable. Doctors will find it especially useful in the sick-room, as it is refreshing, and, what is best of all, as a natural water, it is free from all adulterants. In fever cases, where the temperature runs high and the patient's mouth is dry, and the tongue coated, "Sanitaris" water will prove a valuable adjunct in treatment.
