When they come to the Grave, while the Body is made ready to be laid into the earth, the Minister shall say: Man that is born of a woman hath but a short time to live, and is full of misery. He cometh up, and is cut down, like a flower; he fleeth as it were a shadow, and never continueth in one stay. While the child was yet alive, I fasted and wept: for I said, Who can tell whether God will be gracious to me, that the child may live? But now he is dead, wherefore should I fast? Can I bring him back again? I shall go to him, but he shall not return to me. A voice was heard in Ramah, lamentation, and bitter weeping; Rachel weeping for her children refused to be comforted for her children, because they were not. Thus saith the Lord, Refrain thy voice from weeping, and thine eyes from tears; for thy work shall be rewarded, saith the Lord; and they shall come again from the land of the enemy. And there is hope in thine end, saith the Lord, that thy children shall come again to their own border. Then, while the earth shall be cast upon the body by some standing by, the Minister shall say: Forasmuch as it hath pleased Almighty God of His great mercy to take unto Himself the soul of this dear child here departed, we therefore commit his body to the ground; earth to earth, ashes to ashes, dust to dust; in sure and certain hope of the Resurrection to eternal life, through our Lord Jesus Christ; who shall change the body of our humiliation, that it may be like unto His glorious body, according to the mighty working, whereby He is able to subdue all things to Himself. Then shall be said or sung: Therefore are they before the throne of God, and serve Him day and night in His temple and He that sitteth on the throne shall dwell among them. : They shall hunger no more, neither thirst any more; neither shall the sun light on them, nor any heat. For the Lamb which is in the midst of the throne shall feed them, and shall lead them unto living foun tains of waters: and God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes. Then the Minister shall say: Lord, have mercy upon us. Christ, have mercy upon us. Our Father. Almighty God, with whom do live the spirits of them that depart hence in the Lord, and with whom the souls of the faithful, after they are delivered from the burden of the flesh, are in joy and felicity; We give Thee hearty thanks, for that it hath pleased Thee to deliver this child from the dangers and temptations of this sinful world; beseeching Thee, that it may please Thee, of Thy gracious goodness, shortly to accomplish the number of Thine elect, and to hasten Thy Kingdom; that we, with all those that are departed in the true faith of Thy holy Name, may have our perfect consummation and bliss, both in body and soul, in Thy eternal and everlasting glory; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen. O Lord Jesus Christ, who didst take little children into Thine arms, and bless them; Open Thou our eyes, we beseech Thee, that we may perceive that Thou, in very goodness, hast taken this little child into the everlasting arms of Thine infinite love, and hast brought him to Thy Presence in Paradise; who livest and reignest with the Father, and the Holy Spirit, ever One God, world without end. Amen. O Almighty God, who out of the mouth of babes and sucklings hast ordained strength, and madest infants to glorify Thee by their deaths; Mortify and kill all vices in us, and so strengthen us by Thy grace, that by the innocency of our lives, and constancy of our faith even unto death, we may glorify Thy Holy Name; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen. The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Ghost, be with us all evermore. Amen. Hymns may be sung after the Lesson and before the concluding Grace. If there is a celebration of the Holy Communion, the Lesson shall be omitted and shall become the Gospel. Collect. Grant, O Lord, that as we are baptized into the death of Thy blessed Son, our Saviour Jesus Christ, so by continual mortifying our corrupt affections we may be buried with Him; and that through the grave, and gate of death, we may pass to our joyful resurrection; for His merits, who died, and was buried, and rose again for us, thy Son Jesus Christ our Lord.
