for an improvement on the old method of temporary stimulation, I was led to give hydroleine a fair and impartial trial. The results obtained were so encouraging that I have learned to trust it in all cases where I desire a permanent tissue builder and reconstructive. that it is agreeable to the patient, well borne by the stomach, and the only combination containing codliver oil that does not produce unpleasant eructations so objectionable in most cod-liver oil preparations. It is a pancreatized, predigested oil, giving no extra work to the digestive apparatus, being ready for aliment as soon as ingested.

ELONGATION OF THE UVULVA.

As a gargle in sore throat or elongation of the uvula, Kennedy's Dark Pinus Canadensis has very general endorsement, the usual proportion being a teaspoonful to glass of water.

GENITO-URINARY TRACT.

I am well pleased with Sanmetto. It seems to divest the urine of its morbid or irritating properties and has a soothing tendency in case of irritable or inflamed urethra.

WINE VS. COCA.

Vin Mariani is primarily a Coca preparation, and its properties are those of true Coca, the delicate volatile principles of which are conserved and rendered more effective

by the added influence of the mild Bordeaux wine. The physiological effects of Coca are enhanced by the initial, stimulation of the wine, which speedily gives place to the prolonged benefits of the drug. There are numerous instances when Vin Mariani has been employed to support life during protracted periods to the exclusion of all other forms of nutriment. A result which could not be achieved by merely wine alone.-Coca Leaf, January,

EPILEPSY.

Two remedies have been recently introduced for the treatment of epilepsy. One of these is verbenin, which has been highly recommended by a number of clinicians; especially in cases of gastrointestinal irritation from worms or other causes. The other is salanine, the alkaloid of the horse-nettle. This plant has attracted a great deal of attention, as a remedy for the nervous irritability which renders the epileptic more liable than ordinary persons to suffer from these explosions. The crude plant preparations are too variable for anything like definite results, but their use has shown the remedy to be of undoubted value. The Abbott Alkaloal Co. presents the pure alkaloid in granule form; and verbenin as a purified extract, the best preparation as yet attainable.

Alkaloidal pharmaceutic dynamics calls for the extraction from

the leaves, roots, seeds or bark of a plant (whatever part contains its active principle) the substance which makes the plant valuable for our armamentarium, and if that alkaloid, resin or concentrate is divided into mathematically exact doses and these doses are offered to the doctor in the shape of soluble, elegant tablets or granules which please the eye and do not offend the nose or taste and can be de

pended upon to do the same thing upon every occasion, who can say that our method of alkaloidal therapeutics is not an improvement upon prior conditions?

Whenever the respiration is seriously embarrassed, opium is a most dangerous remedy to prescribe, the already taxed respiratory centers may be palsied by a moderate dose, and death result.

Rumex crispus has cured an exceedingly persistent and exhaustive case of morning diarrhoea. The discharges being very frequent between six o'clock and noon.
