Biography WILLIAM MATTHEW Ketchum, was born in Los Angeles, Los Angeles County, Calif., September 2, 1921; schooling in Los Angeles County included Military School in North Hollywood and graduated, 1939; attended Colorado School of Mines and University of Southern California, majoring in commerce; left school to enter the Armed Forces; served in the United States Army, Seventyseventh Infantry Division, Pacific Theater, during World War II; recalled into service during Korean conflict and served with the Four Hundred and Forty-first Counterintelligence Corps Detachment in Japan for 3 years; elected to the California Legislature in 1966, and served as representative from the Twenty-ninth District for 6 years; formerly engaged in cattle raising and farming; delegate to California State Republican convention, 1966; delegate to Republican National Convention, 1968; elected as a Republican to the Ninety-third Congress, November 7, 1972; reelected to the two succeeding Congresses and served from January 3, 1973, until his death June 24, 1978, in Bakersfield, Calif.; had been a successful candidate in the primary to the Ninety-sixth Congress; cremated; ashes scattered at sea off the coast of Santa Monica, Calif. |
