4 Our fathers' God! to Thee,
Author of liberty,

To Thee we sing!
Long may our land be bright
With freedom's holy light;
Protect us by Thy might,
Great God, our King!

374

S. F. Smith.

LORD, while for all mankind we pray,

Of ev'ry clime and coast,

O hear us for our native land,
The land we love the most.

2 O guard our shores from every foe,
With peace our borders bless,
With prosperous times our cities crown,
Our fields with plenteousness.

3 Unite us in the sacred love

Of knowledge, truth and Thee; And let our hills and valleys shout The songs of liberty.

4 Here my religion, pure and mild, Smile on our Sabbath hours; And piety and virtue bless

The home of us and ours.

5 Lord of the nations, thus to Thee
Our country we commend;

Be Thou her refuge and her trust,
Her everlasting friend.

J. R. Wreford.

OH, SAY, can you see, by the dawn's early

light,

What so proudly we hailed at the twilight's last gleaming?

Whose broad stripes and bright stars, through the perilous fight

O'er the ramparts we watched, were so gallantly streaming?

And the rockets' red glare, the bombs bursting in air,

Gave proof through the night that our flag was still there.

On, say, does that star-spangled banner still

wave

O'er the land of the free and the home of the

brave?

2 On the shore, dimly seen through the mists of the deep,

Where the foe's haughty host in dread silence reposes,

What is that which the breeze, o'er the towering steep,

As it fitfully blows, half conceals, half dis

closes?

Now it catches the gleam of the morning's first beam;

In full glory reflected, now shines on the

stream:

'Tis the star-spangled banner;-oh, long may it wave

O'er the land of the free, and the home of the

brave.

3 Oh, thus be it ever when freemen shall stand Between their loved home and the war's

desolation:

Blest with vict'ry and peace, may the heav'nrescued land

Praise the Pow'r that hath made and preserved us a nation!

Then conquer we must, when our cause it is

just,

And this be our motto: "In God is our trust!" And the star-spangled banner in triumph shall

wave

O'er the land of the free, and the home of the

brave!

F. S. Key.

Du lieber heil'ger, frommer Christ

Einen güldnen Wanderstab
Ein Gärtner geht im Garten
Eins ist not; ach Herr, dies eine
Erhalt uns, Herr, bei deinem Wort
Erwacht vom süssen Schlummer
Es geht durch alle Lande

Ich bin getauft auf deinen Namen
Ich will dich lieben, meine Stärke
