Thro' tedious Illness waxen wan and pale,

When the World frowns, and Friends unfriendly fail: By the Unmerciful to Pieces torn,

His Children naked, and his Wife forlorn:

Or robb'd of all by Men of Pow'r and Might;
Wand'ring by Day, no Lodging in the Night.
O let us then ufe Charity, the chief

Of Chriftian Virtues, to his kind Relief.
Deaf to our Brother's Cries and piteous Cafe,
Our LORD incens'd, from us will turn his Face.

FORGIVE US OUR TRESPASSES, AS WE FORGIVE THEM WHO TRESPASS AGAINST Us.

FORGIVE, O LORD, our Sins of crimson die, That with the Snow we may in Whiteness vie : We plead the Suff'rings of our LORD thy Son, For all the Trefpaffes that we have done:

As we a final Abfolution ask

For all our Crimes; CHRIST gives us no hard Task: Freely to pardon all who us offend,

Whether an open Foe, or treach'rous Friend:

Whether they rob us of our Goods, good Names, (Or if infernal Rage their Breafts inflames)

They feek our Lives; fubmit our Caufe to GOD, Whose Arm will punish with his vengeful Rod. No Malice enters Heav'n; let no Sin stain

The pious Soul, but Love divine maintain.

For Evil to do Good, is moft divine;

And no Act can with greater Glory fhine.

The Saints, who now God's glorious Face behold

Their Trials bore like dauntlefs Soldiers bold.

Who is fo frail a Pardon to refuse

To his poor Brother, who for Mercy fues?
Examine well your Guilt from Time to Time,
How Sin to Sin you added, Crime to Crime;
Forgive a Penny from your Brother due,
As you hope Millions will be pardon'd you.

Your Sins would foon, like Monfters' frightful Jaw Your Souls devour, if God his Help withdraws. Praise his great Goodness; forget not to tell, 'Tis his great Goodness you are out of Hell. Your Trefpaffes are infinite, and none But your REDEEMER's Suff'rings can atone.

AND LEAD US NOT INTO TEMPTATION.

WHEN our Affections are attack'd by Foes,

Too ftrong for feeble Mortals to oppose,

Affift us, LORD, with thy most ready Aid,
By our Corruptions not to be betray'd:
The worldly Baits, and Satan's Wiles to fhun,
And never headlong into Danger run.
Tanquifh'd by this or t'other deadly Sin,

Thy timely Grace ftops our Career therein;
'revents our Ruin, warns us to be wife,
And call on GOD when ftrong Temptations rife.

DAVID had finn'd, and DAVID might have dy'd mpenitent, and Mercy him deny'd;

The LORD fent NATHAN to awake the King,
And to confefs his Sin, the Sinner bring.
And PETER might his Obftinacy kept,
But JESUS look'd on PETER, PETER wept.

Our beft of FATHERS, and Almighty Friend,
n Time of Need will fpeedy Succours fend.
Riches have their Temptations, DIVES fell,
And LAZARUS, tho' Poor, his End was well.

Watch o'er our Hearts, and pray with fervent Zeal,

That no vain Pleafures our Affections fteal.
With Patience let us bear our daily Cross,

And, Heav'n to gain, bear any other Lofs.

BUT DELIVER US FROM EVIL.

FROM Satan's Kingdom, and from Satan's Pow'r, The proud Ufurper that would all devour, Save us, Almighty and Eternal SON,

Who by thy Death a complete Vict❜ry won:

So then thy Kingdom, full of Joy and Peace,

Fix'd in the Heart will more and more increase. Expel all Evils of whatever Kind,

And make the Body free, and free the Mind.

Pride worms itself a thousand diff'rent Ways, Satan's chief Engine, which our Hearts betrays:

Pride in a Cottage, and a Palace dwells,

And with great Vanity the Boafter swells.

Nothing, O LORD, can heal this deadly Wound, But humble Grace, that was in JESUS found. When crafty Satan feems an Angel bright,

Shew us the Cheat by thy tranfcendent Light.

From all the Evils Devils can project,

Or Men devife, thy Servants, LORD, protect.
