SEC. 4. That all appropriations heretofore made for any of the uses or purposes enumerated in previous acts shall only be available until June 30, 1897, and that no warrant shall be drawn after that date, for any of such uses or purposes, against any appropriation not embraced in this act, and that all appropriations made for any of the uses or purposes enumerated in this act shall be available only to pay debts contracted up to, and inclusive of June 30, 1899, and that all unexpended appropriations or part of appropriations shall revert back into the the treasury July 1, 1899.

AN ACT Making an Additional Appropriation for the Expenses of the Legislature of 1897, and Additional Appropriations for Salaries of Executive Department for Six Months Ending December 31, 1897, for the Year 1898, and for Six Months of the Year Ending June 30, 1899.

Be it enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida:

1897.

Expenses

SECTION 1. That the sum of three thousand dollars, or so much thereof as may be necessary, be and the same is hereby Legislature, appropriated as an additional appropriation to pay the expenses of the Legislature of 1897.

SEC. 2. That the sum of seven hundred and fifty dollars be and the same is hereby appropriated for salaries of Executive Department ending December 31, 1897, and that the sum of fifteen hundred dollars is hereby appropriated for the year 1898, and that the sum of seven hundred and fifty dollars is hereby appropriated for the six months ending June 30, 1899. Each of such appropriations being an addition to the amount already appropriated for the salaries of Executive Department for the periods named.

SEC. 3. This act shall take effect upon its passage and approval by the Governor.

AN ACT to Provide for the Levy of a Tax of a Half Mill, the Proceeds Thereof to be Devoted to the Payment of Pensions.

Be it enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida:

SECTION 1. That there shall be levied upon the real and personal property in the different counties for the years 1897 Tax levy for and 1898 a tax of a half mill, the proceeds thereof to be de- pensions. voted to the payment of pensions.

SEC. 2. That the tax under said levy shall be collected as all other taxes are collected; Provided, That if the Governor and Comptroller shall discover from the assessment of the property of the State, the reduction of the half mill for either the years 1897 or 1898 will be justified, they are hereby authorized to reduce the same as low as they may deem advisable; and they are hereby empowered to instruct the Tax Collectors to collect only such needed tax as they may fix as aforesaid.

AN ACT to Amend an Act Entitled an Act to Amend Sections
568 and 570 of the Revised Statutes of the State of Florida,
Concerning Annuities for Disabled Soldiers and Sailors of the
State of Florida, Approved June 2, 1893.

Be it enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida:

SECTION 1. That Section 1 of an act entitled an act to amend Sections 568 and 570 of the Revised Statutes of the State of Florida, concerning annuities for disabled soldiers and sailors of the State of Florida, approved June 2, 1893, be amended to read as follows:

Any person who enlisted in the military or naval service of the Confederate States or of this State during the war Who entitled to between the States of the United States, who was a citizen of this State at the time of enlistment, or who was a bona fide citizen of this State January 1, 1880, and who has so continued ever since, who lost a limb or limbs while engaged in said military or naval service, or who is permanently disabled by reason of wounds or disease so as to be unable and incompetent to earn a livelihood by manual labor, and who shall be a bona fide citizen of this State at the time of making application for the benefit herein provided for, shall be entitled to receive per annum in quarterly payments the following allowance or pay, to wit: For total loss of sight, $150; for total loss of one eye, $30; for total loss of hearing, $30; for loss of a foot or loss of a leg, $100; for loss of all of a hand or loss of an arm, $100; for loss of both hands or both arms, $150; for loss of both feet or both legs, $150; for loss of one hand or foot and one arm or leg of same person, $150; for permanent injuries from wounds whereby an arm is rendered substantially and essentially useless, $90; for permanent injuries from wounds whereby a leg or foot is rendered substantially and essentially useless, $90; for permanent injuries from wounds or disease, contracted during the service or since, whereby the person injured or diseased has been rendered practically unable and incompetent to earn a livelihood by manual labor, $96. The benefits of this section shall inure to the widow of any soldier or sailor who was receiving a pension under the provisions of this act at time of his death, which pension shall continue during such widowhood.

Heuents in ure widows.

The widow of any soldier or sailor killed, or who died during the war or since, and who has remained unmarried, shall receive a pension of $150 during her widowhood.
