appearance, and we hope, still greater improvement in the matter of its letter-press.
The Magazine, henceforth, will be printed on finer paper
effort will be made to render its contents still more attractive in every respect to its many indulgent readers. Thus you see, kind Friends all, how much we rely on you (and we know that our reliance is well placed) for the successful maintenance of the Church Sunday School Magazine.
It may be well always to bear in mind, what it professes to be and what it is intended for, namely, a Church magazine-written by Church people, written for Church people—built upon Church teaching, and intended primarily for Church Sunday School Children and Sunday School Teachers. It is to this end, (tho' indeed, it is adapted for all Church Children, everywhere) that we have always endeavoured to confine it: and we hope not without somewhat of success.
It has been our hope, as it will always be, by the means even of its humble pages and in its humble way, to furnish both a readable and edifying little monthly periodical for the above mentioned classes, and in this manner to become a substitute for those many cheap and objectionable publications which abound everywhere nowa-days in such numbers, and which, tempting as they often are in appearance to the youthful and unwary, are calculated, too surely, to corrupt the tastes and deprave the imaginations of the young and adult alike amongst us.
There is one point however to which we would wish to
draw your special attention, (relying on your prevailing kindness) as one which will greatly help us both designs and labours—we mean the extension of the sale of our Magazine. Notwithstanding a very considerable circulation, there still remains very large room for increase in the issue of our monthly numbers and of our yearly volumes. In such publications as this, it is to a very large sale alone, that the publisher can ever look for the slightest remuneration.
We beg then to express a hope, that those of our friends and readers, who have hitherto helped us onwards by their sympathy and support, will endeavour, as far as in them lies, in their immediate localities, and among their family connexions, in their village schools and the like, to promote and increase the circulation of the Magazine. We must have many more subscribers and readers to meet the necessary expenses of its production.
With the earnest hope, then, for its increased support and increased usefulness, in both of which we trust you will help us kind readers and correspondents : for the present, we must bid you, farewell. We assure you once more, that your kindness and smypathy, your encouragement and support, of which both the present and the past so distinctly witness, will only stimulate us for the future, to render the work still more suitable and still more edifying for those for whom it is designed our Christian children-big and little, of all ages, and of all conditions.
