Temple to take its rightful place, it had only borrowed ill-fitting garments or rough homespun to cover its cold nakedness. Its own royal robes of surpassing loveliness, in the fashioning of which the Church had labored for a thousand years, were forgotten. In our effort to clothe the Liturgy again in her own we can only plead sincerity of purpose, constant adherence to highest standards, and conscientious effort. It has been for us, as for Guidetti, "opus quidem nullius ingenii, multarum tamen vigiliarum." On this great subject we cannot hope to have said the last word. We shall be satisfied if our study shall help the Church to take a single step in the direction of a higher, purer ideal and a more acceptable service. May the great Head of the Church so use it.
