Life; we thine unworthy Servants defire to praise thy Name for all the Expreffions of thy Bounty towards us. We give Thee Thanks that thou haft preferved us from many and great Dangers, wherewith we have been encompaffed; that Thou haft brought us fafe to the Light of this Day; and that Thou haft refreshed us the paft Night with quiet Reft and Sleep. But, above all, we blefs thy holy Name that Thou haft given thy Son to die for our Sins, and to put us in a Way of being happy, if we obey Thee; and after all our wilful Abuse of thy Mercies, haft ftill Patience with us, to fee if we will finish the Work Thou haft fet us to do, and fit our Souls for eternal Glory.'

Pardon, good Lord, we befeech Thee, all our former Sins, and all our Abuses of thy Forbearance and Long-fuffering, for which we are now forry at our Hearts. Give us Grace to lead more holy Lives, and to be more careful in improving all future Opportunities. Make thyfelf present to our Minds, and let thy Love and thy Fear rule in our Souls, in all thofe Places and Companies where our Occasions shall lead us this Day.

Keep

Keep us chafte in all our Thoughts; temperate in all our Enjoyments; humble in all our Opinions of ourselves; charitable in all our Speeches of others; meek and peaceable under all Provocations; fincere and faithful in all our Profeffions; and fo just and upright in all our Dealings, that no Neceffity may force, nor Opportunity in any kind allure us to defraud or over-reach our Neighbour. When Thou bestoweth Good on others, let us not envy, but rejoice in it; and when thou addeft any to ourselves, let us own thy Mercy, and humbly thank Thee for it.

Afford us convenient Supplies in all our reasonable Neceffities, and protect us against the Approach of all Dangers; make us diligent in our Affairs, and give fuch Success to our lawful Endeavours as Thou feeft best and most expedient for us; teach us contentedly to fubmit, and not to repine at any Thing that happens by the Allotment of thy wife Providence.

In all our Paffage through this World, and our manifold Concerns in it, fuffer not our Hearts to be too much fet upon it; but always fix our Minds upon the bleffed Hope of an everlasting Life, that as we go along, we may make all the Things of this World

minister

minister to it, and be careful, above all Things, to fit our Souls for that pure and perfect Bliss which Thou haft prepared for all that love and fear Thee, in the Glories of thy Kingdom.

Direct us in all our Actions, guard us against all Dangers, relieve us in all Straits, and grant that we may always make Thee our Confidence, and take all Things well that Thou ordereft for us. Shorten our Sorrows, and deliver us all from our Sins, for Jefus Chrift's Sake; in the full Extent of whofe Words, we pray to be heard both for ourselves and for all Mankind.

Our Father, &c.

An Evening Prayer for a Family.

ALMIGHTY God, Father of our Lord Jefus Chrift, Maker of all Things, Judge of all Men; we acknowledge and bewail our manifold Sins and Wickedness, which we from Time to Time moft grievously have committed, by Thought, Word and Deed, against thy divine Majesty.

Have Mercy upon us, O Lord, after thy great Goodnefs; according to the Multitude of thy Mercies do away our Offences; wash

us

us thoroughly from our Wickedness, and cleanfe us from our Sins; create and make in us new and contrite Hearts, that we worthily lamenting our Sins, and acknowledging our Wretchednefs, may obtain of Thee, the God of all Mercy, perfect Remiffion and Forgiveness.

Grant us, O Lord, the Affiftance of thy Holy Spirit, that for the Time to come we may think and do always fuch Things as be rightful; that we, who cannot do any Thing that is good without Thee, may by Thee be enabled to live according to thy Will. Let thy Grace always fo prevent and follow us, as to make us continually to be given for all good Works.

Help us, O Lord, to withstand the Affaults of the Enemies of our Salvation, the World, the Flefh, and the Devil; and with pure Hearts and Minds to follow Thee the only God. Graft in our Souls the Love of. thy Name, increase in us true Religion, nourish us with all Goodnefs, and of thy great Mercy keep us in the fame. Grant that we may love the Things which Thou commandeft, and defire that which Thou doft promise; that fo among the fundry and manifold Changes of the World, our Hearts may furely there be fixed, where true Joys

are

are to be found. Difpofe us by all the Means of Grace we enjoy, to attain that everlasting Salvation Thou haft promifed.

Teach us, O Lord, fo to number our Days, that' we may apply our Hearts unto Wisdom; that we may prefs forward toward the Prize of the high Calling that is before us; with Faith and Patience, with Humility and Meeknefs, with Mortification and Self-Denial, with Charity and conftant Perfeverance to the End; that so when we fhall depart this Life, we may fleep in the Lord, and at the general Refurrection in the last Day, we may receive that Bleffing which thy beloved Son fhall then confer upon all that truly love and fear Thee.

Take us, O Lord, we befeech Thee, into thy Protection this Night, and by thy great Mercy defend us from all the Perils and Dangers of it. Keep us both outwardly in our Bodies, and inwardly in our Souls, that we may be defended from all Adverfitics that may happen to the Body, and from all evil Thoughts that may affault and hurt the Soul.

Extend thy Goodnefs, O Lord, to the whole Race of Mankind. Haye Mercy upon all Jews, Turks, Infidels, and Heretics; take from them all Ignorance, Hard
