PREFACE.

The first volume of the Alaska reports contains all the unpublished opinions of the district judges of Alaska from 1884 to December 31, 1902. The index digest therein includes the syllabi of all Alaska cases decided by the District Courts of the United States in California, Oregon, and Washington Territory or by the district judges of Alaska from 1867 to December 31, 1902, as well as those appealed to the Circuit Court of Appeals, Ninth Circuit, or to the Supreme Court of the United States and decided prior to December 31, 1902.

This volume contains all the decisions of the district judges of Alaska rendered between January 1, 1903, and January 1, 1906, and the index digest contains the syllabi thereof, and of all appealed Alaska cases within those dates found in the Federal Reporter from volume 119 to volume 142, both included, as well as those from the United States Reports from volume 187 to volume 200, both included, and volumes 23 to 26 Supreme Court Reporter.

Annotations to the Century Digest will be found after the syllabi which afford access to cases in point from all States and Federal courts down to 1896, and down to the present time by investigating the subsequent American Digests under the same topic and subdivision.

The preparation of this volume was undertaken with the consent of the Attorney General of the United States, though the Department of Justice assumed no responsibility therefor, nor for the cost of publication.
