HEN much people were gathered together, and were come to him out of every city, he spake by a parable: A sower went out to sow his seed; and as he sowed, some fell by the way-side, and it was trodden down, and the fowls of the air devoured it. And some fell upon a rock, and as soon as it was sprung up, it withered away, because it lacked moisture. And some fell among thorns, and the thorns sprang up with it, and choked it. And other fell on good ground, and sprang up, and bare fruit an hundredfold. And when he had said these things, he cried, He that hath ears to hear, let him hear. And his disciples asked him, saying, What That might mig this parable be? A pheth arall a syrthiodd ar dîr da, ac a eginodd, ac a ddug ffrwyth ar ei ganfed. Wrth ddywedyd y pethau hyn efe a lefodd, Y neb sydd a chlustiau ganddo i wrando, gwrandawed. A'i ddisgyblion a ofynasant iddo, gan ddywedyd, Pa ddammeg oedd hon? Yntau a ddywedodd, I chwi y rhoddwyd gwybod dirgeloedd teyrnas Duw: eithr iries of the kingdom of God: but eraill ar ddamhegion; fel yn gweled na welant, ac yn clywed na ddeallant. A dyma'r ddammeg; Yr hâd yw gair Duw; a'r rhai ar ymyl y ffordd, ydyw y rhai sy yn gwrando; wedi hynny y mae diafol yn dyfod, ac yn dwyn ymaith y gair o'u calon hwynt, rhag iddynt gredu, a bod yn gadwedig. A'r rhai ar y graig yw y rhai, pan glywant, a dderbyniant y gair yn llawen; a'r rhai hyn nid oes ganddynt wreiddyn, y rhai sydd yn credu to others in parables; that seeing they might not see, and hearing they might not understand. Now the parable is this: The seed is the Word of God. Those by the way-side are they that hear; then cometh the devil, and taketh away the word out of their hearts, lest they should believe, and be saved. They on the rock are they, which, when they hear, receive the word with joy; and these have no root, which for a while tros amser, ac yn amser profedigaeth yn cilio. And that which fell among thorns, are they, which, when they have heard, go forth, and are choaked with cares, and riches, and pleasures of this life, and bring no fruit to perfection. But that on the good ground, are they, which in an honest and good heart, having heard the word, keep it, and bring forth fruit with patience. Amen. The Epistle. 1 Cor. xiii. 1. THOUGH I speak with the of men and of angels, and have not charity, I am become as sounding brass, or a tinkling cymbal. And though I have the gift of prophecy, and understand all mysteries, and all knowledge; and though I have all faith, so that I could remove mountains, and have no charity, I am nothing. And though I bestow all my goods to feed the poor, and though I give my body to be burned, and have not charit charity, it profiteth me nothing. Charity suffereth long, and is kind'; charity envieth not; charity vaunteth not itself, is not puffed up, doth not behave itself un aidd, nid yw yn ceisio yr eiddo ei hun, ni chythruddir, ni feddwl ddrwg, nid yw lawen am anghyfiawnder, ond cyd-lawenhâu y mae â'r gwirionedd; y mae yn dioddef pob dim, yn credu pob dim, yn gobeithio pob dim, yn ymaros â phob dim. Charity never faileth: but whether there be prophecies, they shall fail; whether there be tongues, they shall cease; whether there be knowledge, it shall vanish away. For we know in part, and we prophesy in part. But when that which is perfect is come, then that which is in part shall be done away. When I was a child, I spake as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child ; but when I became a man, I put away childish things. For now we see through a glass darkly; but then face to face: now I know in part; but then shall I know even as also I am known. And now abideth faith, hope, charity, these three; but the greatest of these is charity. The Gospel. St. Luke xviii. 31. HEN Jesus took unto him the twelve, and said unto them, Behold, we go up to Jerusalem, and all things that are written by the prophets concerning the Son of Man shall be accomplished. For he shall be delivered unto the Gentiles, and shall be mocked, and spitefully entreated, and spitted on: and they shall scourge him, and put him to death; and the third day he shall rise again. And they understood none of these things: and this saying was hid from them, neither knew they the things which were spoken. And it came to pass, that as he was come nigh unto Jericho, a certain blind man sat by the way-side begging: and hearing the multitude pass by, he asked THEN myned heibio, efe a ofynodd pa beth oedd hyn. And they which went before rebuked him, that he should hold his peace: but he cried so much the more, Thou Son of David, have mercy on me. And Jesus stood, and commanded him to be brought unto him: and when he was come near, he asked him, saying, What wilt thou that I should do unto thee? And he said, Lord, that I may receive my sight. And Jesus said unto him, Receive thy sight; thy faith hath saved thee. And immediately he received his sight, and followed him, glorifying God: and all the people, when they saw it, gave praise unto God. The first Day of Lent, commonly A God, who hatest nothing that thou hast made, and dost forgive the sins of all them that are penitent; Create and make in us new and contrite hearts, that we worthily lamenting our sins, and acknowledging our wretchedness, may obtain of thee, the God of all mercy, perfect remission and forgiveness; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen. This Collect is to be read every TURN ye even to me, the Lord, with all your heart, and with fasting, and with weeping, and with mourning. And rend your heart, and not your garments, and turn unto the Lord your God: for he graslawn a thrugarog yw efe, hwyrfrydig i ddigofaint, a mawr ei drugaredd, ac edifeiriol am ddrwg. g. PAN An ymprydioch, na fyddwch rhagrithwŷr, drist: canys anffurfio eu hwynebau y maent, fel yr ymddangosont i ddynion eu bod yn ymprydio. Yn wîr meddaf i chwi, Y maent yn derbyn eu gwobr. Eithr pan ymprydiech di, enneinia dy ben, a golch dy wyneb; fel nad ymddangosech i ddynion dy fod yn ymprydio, ond i'th Dad yr hwn sy yn y dirgel: a'th Dad, yr hwn sydd yn gweled yn y dirgel, a dâl i ti yn yr amlwg. Eithr trysorwch iwch drysorau yn y nêf; lle nid oes na gwyfyn na rhwd yn llygru, a lle nis cloddia lladron trwodd, ac nis lladrattant. Canys lle y mae eich trysor, yno y bydd eich calon hefyd, is gracious and merciful, slow to anger, and of great kindness, and repenteth him of the evil. Who knoweth if he will return, and repent, and leave a blessing behind him, even a meat-offering and a drink-offering unto the Lord your God? Blow the trumpet in Zion, sanctify a fast, call a solemn assembly, gather the people, sanctify the congregation, assemble the elders, gather the children, and those that suck the breasts; let the bridegroom' go forth of his chamber, and the bride out of her closet; let the priests, the ministers of the Lord, weep between the porch and the altar, and let them say, Spare thy people, O Lord, and give not thine heritage to reproach, that the heathen should rule over them: wherefore should they say among the people, Where is their God? The Gospel. St. Matth. vi. 16. ye fast, be not as WHEN countenance: for they disfigure their faces, that they may appear unto men to fast. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward. But thou, when thou fastest, anoint thine head, and wash thy face, that thou appear not unto men to fast, but unto thy Father which is in secret; and thy Father, which seeth in secret, shall reward thee openly. Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal: but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal: for where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.
