PUBLISHERS' NOTE.

Two years ago we published "Success and its Achievers," and immediately some educators, superintendents of schools, teachers, and editors advised the author to convert it into a Reader for the higher grades of schools. One said that "our youth need inspiration, such as they get from the example of successful men and women that the best literature written by Macaulay, Prescott, Lowell, Whittier, Horace Mann, etc., will not furnish it, but that their personal character and individuality found in incidents from their lives, showing how they made it possible to furnish such literature, assure the stimulus; and this book meets just that necessity." After conferring with many teachers, and other parties interested in educational work, we decided to yield to the request, and placed the volume in the hands of one of the first educators in our country, Professor Albert G. Boyden, who has been at the head of the State Normal School at Bridgewater, Mass., nearly thirty years, to convert into a Reader. We claim that his work and endorsement establish the value of the Reader.
