them, My meat is to do the will of him that sent me, and to accomplish his 35 work. Say not ye, There are yet four months, and then cometh the harvest? behold, I say unto you, Lift up your eyes, and look on the fields, that they 36 are white already unto harvest. He that reapeth receiveth wages, and gathereth fruit unto life eternal; that he that soweth and he that reapeth may re37 joice together. For herein is the saying true, One soweth, and another reap38 eth. I sent you to reap that whereon ye have not laboured: others have laboured, and ye are entered into their labour.

39 And from that city many of the Samaritans believed on him because of the word of the woman, who testified, He 40 told me all things that ever I did. So when the Samaritans came unto him, they besought him to abide with them: 41 and he abode there two days. And

many more believed because of his 42 word; and they said to the woman, Now we believe, not because of thy speaking for we have heard for ourselves, and know that this is indeed the Saviour of the world.

The Sermon at Nazaretb.

And he came to Nazareth, where he had been brought up; and he entered, as

his custom was, into the synagogue on the sabbath day, and stood up to read. 17 And there was delivered unto him the book of the prophet Isaiah. And he opened the book, and found the place where it was written :

The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, Because he anointed me to preach good tidings to the poor:

He hath sent me to proclaim release
to the captives,

And recovering of sight to the blind,
To set at liberty them that are bruised,
To proclaim the acceptable year of
the Lord.

20 And he closed the book, and gave it back to the attendant, and sat down: and the eyes of all in the synagogue 21 were fastened on him. And he began to say unto them, To-day hath this scripture been fulfilled in your ears. 22 And all bare him witness, and wondered at the words of grace which proceeded out of his mouth and they said, Is not 23 this Joseph's son? And he said unto them, Doubtless ye will say unto me this parable, Physician, heal thyself: whatsoever we have heard done at Capernaum, do also here in thine own 24 country. And he said, Verily I say

unto you, No prophet is acceptable in 25 his own country. But of a truth I say

unto you, There were many widows in Israel in the days of Elijah, when the

heaven was shut up three years and six months, when there came a great famine 26 over all the land; and unto none of them was Elijah sent, but only to Zarephath, in the land of Sidon, unto a 27 woman that was a widow. And there were many lepers in Israel in the time of Elisha the prophet; and none of them was cleansed, but only Naaman the Syrian.

And seeing the multitudes, he went up into the mountain: and when he had sat down, his disciples came unto him: 2 and he opened his mouth and taught them, saying,

Blessed are the poor in spirit: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

Blessed are they that mourn: for they shall be comforted.

Blessed are the meek: for they shall inherit the earth.

Blessed are they that hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled.

Blessed are the merciful: for they shall obtain mercy.

Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see God.

Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called sons of God.

Blessed are they that have been per

secuted for righteousness' sake: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. II Blessed are ye when men shall reproach you, and persecute you, and say all manner of evil against you falsely, for 12 my sake. Rejoice, and be exceeding glad for great is your reward in heaven: for so persecuted they the prophets which were before you.

13

Ye are the salt of the earth: but if the salt have lost its savour, wherewith shall it be salted? it is thenceforth good for nothing, but to be cast out and trodden 14 under foot of men. Ye are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot 15 be hid. Neither do men light a lamp, and put it under the bushel, but on the stand; and it shineth unto all that are 16 in the house. Even so let your light shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.

Think not that I came to destroy the law or the prophets: I came not to de18 stroy, but to fulfil. For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass away, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass away from the law, till all 19 things be accomplished. Whosoever therefore shall break one of these least commandments, and shall teach men so, shall be called least in the kingdom of heaven but whosoever shall do and teach them, he shall be called great in

20 the kingdom of heaven. For I say unto you, that except your righteousness shall exceed the righteousness of the scribes and Pharisees, ye shall in no wise enter into the kingdom of heaven. Ye have heard that it was said to them of old time, Thou shalt not kill; and whosoever shall kill shall be in dan22 ger of the judgment: but I say unto you, that every one who is angry with his brother shall be in danger of the judgment and whosoever shall say to his brother, Raca, shall be in danger of the council; and whosoever shall say, Thou fool, shall be in danger of 23 the hell of fire. If therefore thou art offering thy gift at the altar, and there rememberest that thy brother hath 24 aught against thee, leave there thy gift before the altar, and go thy way, first be reconciled to thy brother, and then 25 come and offer thy gift. Agree with thine adversary quickly, whiles thou art with him in the way; lest haply the adversary deliver thee to the judge, and the judge deliver thee to the officer, 26 and thou be cast into prison. Verily I say unto thee, Thou shalt by no means come out thence, till thou have paid the last farthing.

27 Ye have heard that it was said, Thou 28 shalt not commit adultery: but I say unto you, that every one that looketh on a woman to lust after her hath com
