American System of Shorthand. The Pitmanic systems are known under various names, as Benn Pitinan, Sir Isaac Pitman, Graham, Munson, Moran, Dement, Barnes, etc., etc. Any other systems than the Pitmanic are as out of place in the English-speaking world as a foreign language in this country.

Shorthand Work in the State Normal is under the supervision of the department of Bookkeeping and Penmanship. Classes begin each half term. Two teachers-Professor Stevenson and Miss Whitbeck-instruct these classes. Miss Whitbeck also gives lessons in
