for any such known to ourselves whom we name in our hearts before Thee ;] that Thou wouldst give strength to the weary, aid to the sufferers, comfort to the sad, and help to all in tribulation.

We pray Thee for the dying, that the souls of Thy servants may be released in peace, and that, dying to the world, they may live for evermore to Thee.

Be present, O Lord, to our prayers, and protect us by day and by night; keep us watchful for the appearing of Thy beloved Son; and grant that in all successive changes of times, we may ever be strengthened by Thine unchangeableness, through Jesus Christ our Lord; to whom with Thee, and the Holy Ghost, be the glory, as it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end.

Amen.

The Benediction.

The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the communion of the Holy Ghost, be with you all.

Amen.

THE

Evening Service.

HE hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth; for the Father seeketh such to worship Him. God is a spirit; and they that worship Him must worship Him in spirit and in truth.

O worship the Lord in the beauty of holiness fear before Him all the earth.

Prayer of Invocation.

GOD, Light of the hearts that see Thee,

and Life of the souls that love Thee, and Strength of the thoughts that seek Thee; from whom to be turned away is to fall, to whom to be turned is to rise, and in whom to abide is to stand fast for ever: grant us now Thy grace and blessing, as we are here assembled to offer up our common supplications; and though we are unworthy to approach Thee, or to ask anything of Thee at all, vouchsafe to hear and to answer us, for the sake of our great High Priest and Advocate, Jesus Christ our Lord.

The Confession.

We have sinned against Thee, and have done wickedly. Our thoughts have been evil and vain continually. Our hearts have been deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked. Our members have been the instruments of unrighteousness to sin. We have not loved Thee with a pure heart fervently, neither have we loved our neighbour as ourselves. We have not done justly, or loved mercy, or walked humbly with Thee, our God; but we have been greedy of sin and impatient of reproof, and Thee we have not glorified. We confess our sins before Thee: sins that are secret and sins that are open; sins that are forgotten and sins that are remembered; infinite in their degrees, intolerable in their load, we confess them all before Thee.

Enter not into judgment with Thy servants, O Lord for in Thy sight shall no flesh living be justified.

Have mercy upon us, O Lord, according to Thy loving-kindness; according to the multitude of Thy tender mercies, blot out our iniquity.

Return, O Lord, how long? and let it repent Thee concerning Thy servants.

Have pity on us, have pity on us, according to Thy great mercy in Christ Jesus our Lord.

For Pardon and Peace.

O Thou gracious Father of mercy, Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, have mercy upon Thy servants who bow before Thee; pardon and forgive us all our sins; give us the grace of true repentance, and a strict obedience to Thy holy Word; strengthen us in the inner man for all the parts and duties of holy living; preserve us for ever in the unity of Thy holy Church, in the integrity of the Christian faith, in the love of Thee and of our neighbours, in the hope of eternal life, and in Thy peace which passeth all understanding.

Supplications.

Hear us, O Lord, when we cry unto Thee, for unto Thee do we lift up our souls.

We renounce the works of darkness; cause us to walk in the light of Thy countenance. We renounce the vanities of this world; help us to seek after the enduring substance laid up with Thee in heaven. We renounce the sinful lusts of the flesh; enable us to walk in the Spirit.

Teach us to endure hardness as good soldiers of Jesus Christ, that we may not fear the reproach of men, nor be ashamed of Christ or

of His cross; and that we may not count life itself dear unto us, so we may finish our course with joy.

Quicken us to work the works of Him that hath sent us, while it is day, because the night cometh wherein no man can work; and what we do, enable us to do it heartily, as unto the Lord, and not unto men.

Grant us, in all our duties, Thy help; in all our difficulties, Thy counsel; in all our dangers, Thy protection; and in all our sorrows, Thy peace.

Almighty God, our most holy and eternal Father, who art of pure eyes, and canst behold no iniquity, let Thy gracious and holy Spirit descend upon Thy servants; that no impure thoughts may pollute that soul which Thou hast sanctified, no impure words pollute that tongue which Thou hast ordained an organ of Thy praise, no impure action rend the veil of that temple which Thou hast chosen for an habitation; but grant that, our senses being sealed up from all vain objects, our hearts entirely possessed with religion, fortified with prudence, watchfulness, and self-denial, we may so live in this present world as not to fail of the glories of the world to come.

Here may be introduced any
Supplication.
