In this very rare and interesting book we find at page 113 a reference which undoubtedly is meant for SHAKESPEARE'S TRAGEDY OF RICHARD THE THIRD. For a notice of the work see Sir Egerton Bridges' Restituta, Vol. IV. The present copy, which is a very fine one, contains the preliminary poems by Thomas Campion, John Ford (the first printed work of this Author) and others; these are not found in all copies. Not in the Hoe or Huth collections.

1607. Excessively Rare, only a few copies being known. Not in the Hoe or Huth sales. "Barnes is best known by his Parthenophil and Parthenope Sonnettes, Madrigals, Elegies, and Odes; a work which gives him a claim to high rank among the minor Elizabethans as a sonnetteer and lyrist.

The play is of Shakespearean interest. Mr. A. H. Bullen says: "Dyce thought that from one scene Shakespeare drew a hint for stage business in the Tempest. Shakespearean commentators have pointed out a striking parallelism between a passage of Barnes' play and the 'pitiful mummery' (by whomsoever introduced) in Cymbeline, V. 4."
