CHAP. 40. An ACT, making appropriations to carry into effect certain Indian Treaties.

[SECT. 1.] Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled, Appropriations. That the following sums be, and the same are hereby, appropriated, to be paid out of any unappropriated money in the Treasury, viz:

For payment, for the year one thousand eight hundred and thirty, of the permanent annuity provided for by the second article of the treaty concluded at Prairie du Chien, the twentyninth July, one thousand eight hundred and twenty-nine, with the Chippewa, Ottawa, and Pottawattamie Indians, sixteen thousand dollars.

For the purchase of goods, stipulated by the said article to be delivered to the said Indians, twelve thousand dollars.

For the purchase of fifty barrels of salt, for one thousand eight hundred and thirty, stipulated by the said article, one hundred and twenty-five dollars.

For transportation of the said annuity and salt, and expense of provisions at the delivery of the same, one thousand dollars. For the payment of claims provided for by the fifth article of the said treaty, eleven thousand six hundred and one dollars.

For the expense of surveying the boundaries of the cession made by the said treaty, two thousand dollars.

For the payment, for the year one thousand eight hundred gust, 1829, 18,000 and thirty, of the limited annuity provided by the second article of the treaty made at Prairie du Chien, the second August, one thousand eight hundred and twenty-nine, with the Winnebago Indians, eighteen thousand dollars.

For purchasing goods to be delivered at the treaty, as stipulated by the said second, article, thirty thousand dollars.

For transportation of the same, sixty dollars.

For purchasing fifty barrels of salt, per said second article, one hundred and twenty-five dollars.

For transportation of the same, one hundred dollars.

For support of three blacksmiths shops, including pay of Shops, 3,000 dols. smiths, and assistants, also tools, iron, steel, &c. for the year one thousand eight hundred and thirty, as per third article of said treaty, three thousand dollars.

Oxen & Cart, &c. 535 dolls.

For the purchase of two yoke of oxen, and a cart, and for the services of a man at the portage of Wisconsin and Fox Rivers, for one thousand eight hundred and thirty, as per same article, five hundred and thirty-five dollars.

For the payment of sundry claims against the Winnebagoes, as provided for by the fourth article of said treaty, twentythree thousand, five hundred and thirty-two dollars.

For expense of surveying the boundaries of the territory ceded by the said treaty, one thousand seven hundred and forty dollars.

CHAP. 41. An ACT to provide for the payment of sundry citizens of the Territory of Arkansas, for trespasses committed on their property by the Osage Indians, in the years, one thousand eight hundred and sixteen, one thousand eight hundred and seventeen, and one thousand eight hundred and twenty three.

[SECT. 1.] Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled, That the Secretary of War be, and he hereby is, directed to Bec'y War to pay pay to Robert Kerkendall, the sum of four thousand four hundred and ten dollars, in full compensation for sixty-three horses and mules, taken from him by the Osage Indians, in the year one thousand eight hundred and sixteen; that he likewise pay to Joseph English, eight hundred and fifteen to J. E. 815 dls. dollars, in full compensation for six horses taken from him by said Indians, in the year one thousand eight hundred and seventeen; also, to John Bowman, eight hundred and seventy to J. B. 870 dolls dollars, in full compensation for eleven horses, taken from him in the year one thousand eight hundred and twenty-three;

and likewise, to Antoine Barrague, six hundred and sixty-one to A. B. 661 dols. dollars, in full compensation for property of his destroyed and taken, by the Osage Indians, in the year one thousand eight hundred and twenty-three.

CHAP. 42. An ACT for the relief of Abigail Appleton.

[SECT. 1.] Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled, That the Secretary of the Navy be, and hereby is, authorized Sec'y Navy to and required to place the name of Abigail Appleton, the widow the pension list of Daniel Appleton, upon the pension list, and to allow to her a pursuant to, &e. pension, to commence from the third day of September, one thousand eight hundred and twenty-nine, pursuant to the provisions of the act, entitled "An act in addition to an act giving pensions to the orphans and widows of persons slain in the public or private armed vessels of the United States," and the act to which the same is an addition, subject to the conditions and limitations therein contained.

CHAP. 44. An ACT for the relief of Henry Dickins and others.

[SECT. 1. ] Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress Assembled, Collector of New That the Collector of the customs for the district of New London to pay to London, in Connecticut, is hereby authorized to pay to Henry allowance due Dickins, Thomas Dunbar, junior, and Trustum Dickins, owners of a fishing schooner, called the Whale, of sixtyeight tons and sixty-eight ninety-fifths of a ton burthen, and to the persons composing her late crew, such allowance, to be distributed according to law, as they would have been entitled to receive, had she completed her fishing term; the said schooner having returned into port three days before the expiration of the four months required, in consequence of the death of one, and the sickness of three others of her crew. CHAP. 45. An ACT, for the relief of Cread Glover.

[SECT. 1.] Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives af the United States of America in Congress assembled, Soc'y Treasury to That the Secretary of the Treasury pay to Cread Glover, out of any money in the Treasury, not otherwise appropriated, the sum of sixty dollars, the value of a horse lost by him while in the military service of the United States, during the late war, in the expedition under the command of Governor Shelby, by reason of the said Glover's being dismounted and separated from his horse at the mouth of Portage river, in the state of Ohio. [Approved, March 25, 1830.]

[SECT. 1.] Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled, That the Secretary of War be, and he is hereby, authorized Sec'y War to pay to pay to Francis Comparet five hundred dollars, that being the sum stipulated to be paid to him, by the name of Jean B. Comporet, in the treaty held with the Pottawattamie tribe of Indians, at St. Joseph, September, one thousand eight hundred hundred and twenty-eight.

CHAP. 47. An ACT, for the relief of Thomas Buford.

[SECT. 1.] Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled, That the sum of six hundred dollars be paid to Thomas Buford, 600 dolls, to be out of any money in the Treasury, not otherwise appropriated, services, &c. for his services as a Deputy Quartermaster General, from the twenty-ninth day of June, one thousand eight hundred and twelve, to the third day of July, one thousand eight hundred and thirteen.

CHAP. 48. An ACT for the relief of the purchasers of Public Lands, and for the suppression of fraudulent practices at the public sales of the Lands of the United States.

SEC. 2.
