TO THE RIGHT REVEREND

THOMAS, LORD BISHOP OF SARUM.

MY LORD,

IN republishing a Work, the Author of which had the honour of being one of your Lordship's subordinate Coadjutors in superintending the Spiritual Concerns of the Diocese of Sarum, I feel gratified by the permission to dedicate it to your Lordship; sensible as I am, that "The Guide to the Church" will derive additional value from the countenance of a Prelate, not less distinguished as a "Master in Israel," than as a firm and uncompromising Defender of the Church of England.

This gratification, my Lord, is in no small degree enhanced by the remembrance, that the late

Archdeacon of Sarum was impressed with those feelings of respect for your Lordship's Character, which prompted my request upon this subject; and also by the warm interest relative to my late Fatherin-Law, which your Lordship kindly evinced by your Visit at North-Bradley shortly after his decease ; and on other occasions when I have had the honour of conversing with your Lordship, on subjects connected with your late Archdeacon.

I have the honour to be,

My Lord,

Your Lordship's most obedient

humble Servant,

HENRY DAUBENEY.

Crescent, Bath, December, 1829.
