N this volume Mr. Youngman's aim has

been to put into concise form the salient points in the speeches I delivered during both the primary and election campaigns of last year. For this purpose he has selected parts of different speeches upon similar subjects, and has put them under separate headings in order to bring together in a volume of convenient size the more important features of the Progressive Movement as set forth in those speeches. In order to avoid any misunderstanding in the future, I would of course have preferred to have all the speeches ncluded in their entirety, giving the date ind place of delivery in each case, but this Mr. Youngman found it impossible to do. He as, however, done this in the case of half a -ozen of the more important speeches. A study of this volume I hope will serve to ar up many popular misconceptions, often

to deliberate misquotation and mispresentation on the part of certain newsipers, as to the movement which led to the rmation of the Progressive Party. It will
