It shall come to pass that I will pour out my Spirit upon all Flesh, and also upon the Servants, and upon the Handmaids in thofe Days will I pour out of my Spirit, Joel ii. 28, 29. Here the Lord faith not upon my. Prophets, and Apostles only, but upon all Flesh, that is, upon all who believe over the whole World. As it is written, I pray not for these (the Apoftles) alone, but for them alfo which shall believe on me thro' their Word: that they all may be one as Thou Father art in me, and I in Thee; that they all may be one in us that the World may lieve that Thou haft fent me. And the Glory that thou gavest me, I have given them; that they may be one even as we are one. I in Them, and Thou in me. Alfo he adds, I have de.. clar'd unto them thy Name; and will declare it; that the Love wherewith thou haft loved me may be in them, and I in them, John xvii. 20, 21, 22, 23, 26. In this Scripture 'tis plain our Saviour pray'd for all Believers with the Apoftles, that he might be in them, even as the Father was in him. Hear alfo another Scripture, As many as received him, to them gave he Power to become the Sons of God; even to them that believe in his Name, John i. 12. In the last Day, that great Day of the Feast Fefus food, and cried, faying, If any Man (not Apoftle only, but if any Man) thirst, let him come to me, and drink. He that believeth on me as the Scripture hath faid, out of his Belly fhall flow Rivers of living Water. But this he spake of the Spirit, which they that believe in him should receive, John vii. 37, 38. Alfo the Lord faith, Behold! I ftand at the Door and knock, if any Man hear my Voice and open the Door, I will come in to him, and fup with him, and he with me, Rev. iii. 20. IfI

were to fay no more, it is evident the Promise of the Holy Ghoft is to all them that believe. But that I might make it appear that all who fay they believe, and deny the Gift of the Holy Ghoft every Chriftian's Privilege, are only poffefs'd of an hiftorical, falfe Faith, and not the true living Faith of the Children of God. I would go on ftill to prove the fame which I have begun, and fhew how all who have not the Holy Ghoft, are fo far from being the true Believers, that they are (whatever they may profefs to be) but Deceivers. of their own Souls, and afleep in the dreadful Bofom of a curfed Nature. This I will do if God permit, both from the Prophets, and Apoftles Words. As for me this is the Covenant with them faith the Lord. My Spirit that is upon thee, and my Word which I have put into thy Mouth, fall not depart out of thy Mouth, nor out of the Mouth of thy Seed, Ifaiah lix. 21. And in another Place he faith, Iwill pour out my Spirit upon thy Seed, Ifa. xliv. 3. Thefe Promifes are made to Chrift, his Seed are all thofe that are begotten and born of him. Again faith God, Turn you at my Reproof, behold I will pour out my Spirit unto you,. Prov. i. 23. Alfo the Lord, fpeaking to his People, faith, According to the Word which I covenanted with you, when you came out of Egypt; fo my Spirit remaineth among you, Hag. ii. 5. And again by another Prophet he faith, I will pour upon the House of David, and upon the Inhabitants of Jerufalem, the Spirit of Grace, and Sup-lication, Zech. xii. 10.. Again he faith by another Prophet, I will put my Spirit within you, Ezek.xxxvi. 27. And it another Place by the fame Prophet he faith, I will put my Spirit in you, and you fall live, Chap. xxxvii. 14. And in Jeremiah, This fall be the Covenant that I will

make with the Houfe of Ifrael, After thefe Days, faith the Lord, I will put my Law (i. e. the Law of the Spirit of Life) in their inward Parts, and write it in their Hearts, Jeremiah xxxi. 33. So another Prophet, fpeaking of great Defolation, faith, it fhall be, Until the Spirit be poured upon us from on high, Ifa. xxxii. 15. Alfo David faith, The Secret of the Lord is with them that fear him, Pfalm xxv. 14. And Solomon writes, The Secret of the Lord is with the Righteous, Prov. iii. 32. And Nehemiah faith, Thou giveft also thy good Spirit to inftruct them, Neh. ix. 20. This is the Teftimony of the Holy Prophets before Christ caine in the Days of his Flesh; to thefe I wou'd only add yet one Place more out of Isaiah, and. then I would go forward to fhew, how all the Apostles harmonife in this fweet Teftimony, that Christ by his Spirit dwelleth in all them who believe. Thus faith the high and lofty one that inhabiteth Eternity, whofe Name is Holy, I dwell in the high and holy Place, with him also that is of a contrite and humble Spirit, Ifaiah lvii. 15. St. John faith, If we love one another God dwelleth in us, and his Love is perfected in us, 1 John iv. 12. And again at the 15th Verfe he faith, God dwelleth in us, and we in God. And again, We know that the Son of God is come, and hath given us an Understanding that we may know him that is true, and we are in him that is true, even in his Son Fefus Chrift, John v. 20. Again he faith, be that abideth in the Doctrine of Chrift he hath both the Father and the Son, 2 John 1. 9. And yet again he faith, when he was caught up into the Spirit, I heard a great Voice out of Heaven faving, Behold! the Tabernacle of God is with Men, and be will dwell with them, and they shall be his People, and God himself spall be with them,

and be their God, Rev. xxi. 3. So faid Peter and the other Apoftles, We are Witnesses of these Things, and fo is also the Holy Ghost, whom God hath given to them that obey him, Acts v. 32. Alfo when the Apoftles had heard that the People of Samaria had received the Word, fome of them went down from Jerufalem, and prayed for them, that they might receive the Holy Ghoft; and they received the Holy Ghoft, Acts viii. 17. So when Peter went to the Houfe of Cornelius the Gentile, and preached the Salvation of Jefus only by Faith in his Blood, While Peter yet spake thefe Words, the Holy Ghoft fell on all them which heard the Word. And they of the Circumcifion were aftonished, as many as came with Peter, because that on the Gentiles also was poured out the Gift of the Holy Ghoft, Acts x. 44, 45. And Peter himfelf teftifies, As I began to fpeak, the Holy Ghoft fell on them, as on us at the Beginning. Then remember'd I the Word of the Lord, how that he faid, John indeed baptized with Water, but ye shall be baptiz'd with the Holy Ghoft, Ats xi. 15. And again, when there was a Difputation among the Apoftles, and Elders about the Gentiles, Peter faid, God, which knoweth the Hearts, bare them witnefs, giving them the Holy Ghost, even as he did unto us, Acts xv. 8. Here the Apoftle fpeaks. very plain, faying, God made no Difference between the Apostles and the common Believers, but gave them the Holy Ghost, even (faith he) as he did unto us. So faith St. Paul to the Corinthians, We have the fame Spirit of Faith, 2 Cor. iv. 13. And again, We all with open Face behold as in a Glafs the Glory of the Lord; are changed into the fame Image from Glory to Glory, even as by the Spirit of the Lord, 2 Cor. iii. 18. And again, he faith to the Brethren at Corinth, For ye are

So he faith in another Place, For this Caufe Ibow my Knees unto the Father of our Lord Jefus Chrift--that he would grant you, according to the Riches of his Glory, to be ftrengthened with Might, by his Spirit in the inner Man; that Chrift may dwell in your Hearts by Faith, Ephef. iii. 14, 15, 17. And he exhorts them, faying, Be filled with the Spirit, Chap. v. 18. And again, Take the Helmet of Salvation, and the Sword of the Spirit, which is the Word of God; praying always with all Prayer and Supplication in the Spirit, Chap. vi. 17, 18. And again, Endeavouring to keep the Unity of the Spirit, Chap. iv. 3. And again, That ye be renewed in the Spirit of your Mind, that ye put on the new Man, which after God is created in Righteoufnefs and true Holiness, Chap. iv. 23, 24. Writing to the Theffalonians he faith, Quench not the Spirit, 1 Thef. v. 19. And in his fecond Epiftle, God hath chofen you from the Beginning to Salvation thro' Sanctification of the Spirit, 2 Thef. ii. 13. And to Timothy he faith, GOD hath not given us the Spirit of Fear, but of Power, and of Love, and of a found Mind, 2 Tim. i. 7. And to the Galatians he faith, Because you are Sons, GOD hath fent forth the Spirit of his Son into your Hearts, crying, Abba Father, Gal. iv. 5, 6. And again, We thro' the Spirit wait for the Hope of Righteousness by Faith, Gal. v. 5. And again, This I fay, walk in the Spirit, Chap.
