him. And, when he had gathered all the chief priests and scribes of the people together, he demanded of them where Christ should be born; and they said unto him, in Bethlehem of Judea; for thus it is written by the prophet: "And thou Bethlehem, in the land of Judah, art not the least among the prin ces of Judah: for out of thee shall come a Governor, that shall rule my people Israel." Then Herod, when he had privily called the wise men, enquired of them diligently what time the star appeared; and sent them to Bethlehem, and said: "Go, and search diligently for the young child; and when ye have found him, bring me word again, that I may come and worship him also." When they had heard the king, they departed; and lo, the star, which they saw in the east, went before them, 'till it came and stood over where the young child was. When they saw the star, they rejoiced with exceeding great joy. And when they were come into the house, they saw the young child with Mary his mother, and fell down, and WORSHIPPED HIM: and, when they had opened their treasures, they presented unto him gifts; gold, and frankincense, and myrrh. And being warned of God in a dream that they should not return to Herod, they departed into their own country another way.

FOR

The Epistle. Ephes. iii. 1-12.

OR this cause, I Paul, the prisoner of Jesus Christ for you Gentiles, if ye have heard of the dispensation of the grace of God, which is given me to you-ward: how that by revelation he made known unto me the mystery, as I wrote afore in few words: whereby, when ye read, ye may understand my knowledge in the mystery of Christ; which in other ages was not made known unto the sons of men, as it is now revealed unto the holy & postles and prophets, by the Spirit; that the Ger tiles should be fellow-heirs, and of the same body

and partakers of his promise, in Christ, by the gospel; whereof I was made a minister, according to the gift of the grace of God given unto me, by the effectual working of his power. Unto me, who am less than the least of all saints, is this grace given; that I should preach among the Gentiles, the unsearchable riches of Christ; and to make all men see, what is the fellowship of the mystery, which from the beginning of the world hath been hid in God, who created all things by Jesus Christ: to the intent that now, unto the principalities and powers in heavenly places, might be known, by the church, the manifold wisdom of God, according to the eternal purpose which he purposed in Christ Jesus, our Lord: In whom we have boldness, and access with confidence, by the faith of him.

THE FIRST SUNDAY AFTER EPIPHANY..

The Gospel. Luke ii. 41- -52.

WOW his parents went to Jerusalem every year at the feast of the passover. And when HE was twelve years old they went up to Jerusalem after the custom of the feast. And when they had fulfilled the days, as they returned, the child Jesus tarried behind in Jerusalem; and Joseph and his mother knew not of it. But they supposing him to have been in the company, went a day's journey; and they sought him among their kinsfolk and acquaintance. And when they found him not, they turned back again to Jerusalem, seeking him. And it came to pass, that, after three days, they found him in the temple, sitting in the midst of the doctors, both hearing them, and asking them questions. And all that heard him were astonished at his understanding and answers. And when they saw him

they were amazed; and his mother said unto him "Son, why hast thou thus dealt with us? behold, thy father and I have sought thee sorrowing." And he said unto them: "How is it, that ye sought me ? wist ye not that I must be about my Father's busi ness?" and they understood not the saying which he spake unto them. And He went down with them, and came to Nazareth, and was subject unto them : but his mother kept all these sayings in her heart. And Jesus increased in wisdom and stature, and in favour with God and man.

The Epistle. Romans xй. 16.

Beseech you, therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service. And be not conformed to this world; but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect will of God: for I say, through the grace given unto me, to every man that is among you, not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think; but to think soberly, according as God hath dealt to every man the measure of faith. For as we have many members in one body, and all members have not the same office; so we, being many, are one body in Christ, and every one members one of another. Having then gifts different according to the grace that is given to us, whether prophecy, let us prophecy according to the proportion of faith.

THE SECOND SUNDAY AFTER EPIPHANY.

The Gospel. John ii. 111.

ND the third day there was a marriage in Cans of Gallalee; and the mother of Jesus was there.

And both Jesus was called and his disciples to the marraige. And when they wanted wine, the mother of Jesus saith unto him, "They have no wine." Jesus. saith unto her, "Woman, what have I to do with thee? mine hour is not yet come." His mother saith unto the servants, "Whatsoever he saith unto you, do it." And there were set there six water-pots of stone, after the manner of the purifying of the Jews, containing two or three firkins apiece. Jesus saith unto them, "Fill the water-pots with water." And they filled them up to the brim. And he saith unto them," Draw out now, and bear it unto the governor of the feast." And they bare it. When the ruler of the feast had tasted the water that was made wine, and knew not whence it was, (but the servants which drew the water knew) the governor of the feast called the bridegroom; and saith unto him: 66 Every man at the beginning doth set forth good wine; and when men have well drunken, then that which is worse: but thou hast kept the good wine until now." This beginning of miracles did Jesus in Cana of Gallalee, and manifested forth his glory; and his disciples believed on him.

The Epistle. Romans xii. 6-16.

AVING then gifts, different according to the grace that is given to us, whether prophecy, let us prophecy according to the proportion of faith; or ministry, let us wait on our ministering; or he that teacheth, on teaching; or he that exhorteth, on exhortation: he that giveth, let him do it with sim plicity; he that ruleth, with diligence; he that sheweth mercy, with cheerfulness. Let love be

without dissimulation. Abhor that which is evil; cleave to that which is good. Be kindly affectioned one to another with brotherly love; in honour preferring one another. Not slothful in business; fervent in spirit; serving the Lord; rejoicing in hope ;

patient in tribulation; continuing instant in prayer; distributing to the necessity of the saints; given to hospitality. Bless them which persecute you; bless, and curse not. Rejoice with them that do rejoice, and weep with them that weep. Be of the same mind one toward another. Mind not high things, but condescend to men of low estate. Be not wise in your own conceits.

THE THIRD SUNDAY AFTER EPIPHANY.

W

The Gospel. Mat. viii. 1-13.

HEN he was come down from the mountain, great multitudes followed him. And, behold there came a leper, and worshipped him, saying: "Lord, if thou wilt thou canst make me clean." And Jesus put forth his hand and touched him, say. ing: "I will; be thou clean." And immediately his leprosy was cleansed. And Jesus saith unto him: "See thou tell no man: but go thy way, shew thyself to the priest, and offer the gift that Moses commanded, for a testimony unto them."

And when Jesus was entered into Capernaum, there came unto him a centurion, beseeching him, and saying: "Lord, my servant lieth at home, sick of the palsy, grievously tormented." And Jesus saith unto him': "I will come, and heal him." The centu rian answered, and said: "Lord, I am not worthy that thou shouldst come under my roof; but speak the word only, and my servant shall be healed. For I am a man under authority, having soldiers under me; and I say to this man, Go, and he goeth: and to another, Come, and he cometh; and to my ser vant, Do this, and he doeth it." When Jesus heard it, he marvelled, and said to them that followed: Verily I say unto you, I have not found so great
