This Sale

will be conducted by

Mr. George D. Morse

Baverbill, Mass.

THE Books described in this Catalogue comprise the remaining portion of Mr. McKee's Library. A small number were overlooked during the progress of the cataloguing, and may be offered later in conjunction with one of the print sales.

The assertion may be safely ventured that no more desirable and interesting gathering of books has appeared within the covers of a catalogue for many years than those now offered for sale.

Of "Association Books" alone, there will be found here, precious volumes that were either presentation copies from, or the personal possessions of, Jean Grolier, Victor Hugo, Shelley, Keats, Lamb, Dickens, Thackeray, Arthur Hallam, Alexander Pope, Thomas Gray, Peg Woffington, Mrs. Siddons, Swinburne, Leigh Hunt, Southey, Thomas Moore, Barry Cornwall, Thomas Jefferson, Benedict Arnold, and many others.

The collection of Americana, while not extensive, contains many items of excessive rarity. Among the Bibles will be found the only known copy of the 1752 Edition of the Mark Baskett Bible the first Bible printed in the English Language in America.

A magnificent copy of the "Editio Princeps" of Thomas á Kempis' Imitation of Christ, 1471, is only one of a number of rarities among the Early Printed Books. The collection of Burns is most exceptional, including the first three editions printed for the Author, and the three earliest American editions, besides a number of great rarities of Burnsiana, and including original manuscripts by the poet and his "Clarinda." Gray's Elegy" appears in its first five editions, all with variations. The collection of works by Percy B. Shelley and Charles Lamb will be found worthy of special attention, as will those of John Keats, Alfred Tennyson, and William Wordsworth.

*

Part VII of the collection will consist of a second portion of Mr. McKee's remarkable gathering of Manuscripts, Drawings, Engraved Portraits and Views, Autograph Letters, Playbills,

This sale will take place in the Fall, and others, comprised of the same species of material, will follow later in the season. These will conclude the dispersion of the entire collection.

Realizing the fact that a long series of catalogues like those of the McKee collection should be made available for use as a reference work, particularly when so remarkable a variety of material has been presented and described, Mr. Anderson begs to announce his intention of issuing, after the conclusion of the sales, an exhaustive analytical index to the entire collection.
