OF THE

HOSPITAL OF THE GOOD SAMARITAN

GENERAL STATEMENT.

The Hospital of the Good Samaritan, located at 924-934 West 7th Street, Los Angeles, is an institution of 100 rooms. A Diocesan Hospital owned and managed by the Episcopal Church in Southern California, but undenominational in its benefits, being a general hospital for the reception of patients irrespective of nationality or creed. The Hospital was established in 1887 and has always been one of the foremost institutions of its kind in Southern California, Its new and beautiful buildings are located 10 minutes' ride from the heart of the City within one block of five street car lines. It has an equipment equal to the most modern hospitals of the East, having a continuous high pressure steam plant, admirable systems of heating and ventilation, a signal and telephone system, sanitary plumbing, modern kitchen, up-to-date operating rooms, obstetrical and children's department and facilities for laboratory work.

KITCHEN.

The kitchen is provided with modern ventilation, the latest hospital plumbing, a cold storage plant, steam for cooking, also a process by which all dishes used in the hospital are sterilized after each meal. This department is in charge of a graduate cooking teacher and the cooking is done under the auspices and direct management of the training school, insuring the very best and most appropriate food for the sick. The hospital controls a private dairy-ranch, insuring the patients the purest milk and farm products.

OPERATING ROOM.

There are four operating rooms on different floors for different purposes. The main operating pavilion of eight rooms is provided with furniture and apparatus especially made to order for this hospital. This department is supplied continuously with high pressure steam for heat and sterilization and with both direct and alternating electrical currents.

OBSTETRICAL DEPARTMENT.

The obstetrical department is equipped with confinement, operating and sterilizing room, nursery and incubator.

CHILDREN'S DEPARTMENT.

The children's department comprises a ward of nine beds and nine private rooms in the main building, a large garden with tents for those who thrive best out of doors. Spacious playgrounds and a treatment department containing an X-Ray room, plaster room, electricity and massage rooms and gymnasium; also a sun room for the administration of Violet rays in tubercular joint disease.

LABORATORY FACILITIES.

A laboratory has been provided for the use of the training school as well as the profession, containing an autoclave, incubator, hot air oven, centrifuge microscope, microtome, etc.

SIGNAL SYSTEM.

The institution is also fortunate in having had installed a signal call system throughout which eliminates the old fashioned bell service, thus doing away with the noise of bells and insuring a prompt response to a patient's call.

PROVISION FOR ALL CLASSES.

This hospital is equipped to care for both rich and poor. There are elegant suites and apartments with private bath and telephones for those who desire luxurious accommodations. It is also prepared to care for those in moderate circumstances.

AIM.

It is the aim of this hospital to educate young women thoroughly in the art of nursing, to give the best service to all classes for reasonable remuneration and to render such assistance to the destitute sick as it is able to do. In fact to furnish the public with a hospital in the highest sense.
