In reference to the "new idea," or iodine, I wish to state that the tincture is not proper for internal use. I know that this is a broad declaration, but I mean it, and now for the modus operandi. First, thoroughly unload the portal circulation by giving calomel and ipecac, in sufficient doses to thoroughly clear out the alimentary canal. Then, after the dejections have assumed a natural appearance, begin with nitric acid, and give three doses per day until a full ounce shall have been used; from eight to ten drops will make a tumblerful of water about as sour as it can be drank. It should be taken through a straw, or quill, to protect the teeth, and may be taken without any reference to chill or fever, say three glasses per day. Now, brethren, hunt up your old chronic cases with hypertrophied spleens, and jaundice, and leucocythemia of the blood, and begin on them anew, do not be afraid to promise a cure. This remedy could not well be used for young children, as they rebel against the quantity; for the youngsters I use ferri ferrocyanuretum, which is practically tasteless, and which always cures but requires a little more time.
