Wednesday Evening.

LORD GOD of our salvation, give ear unto our prayer; and so assist as in our approach to Thy mercy-seat, that we may draw near to Thee with earnest and believing hearts.

Through another day we have been most gracicusly preserved by Thy care and blessed by Thy bounty. We desire as a family to offer to Thee our praises and thanksgivings for family mercies. May all Thy great goodness draw our hearts towards Thee.

Keep us mindful, O Lord, that this is not our rest. Give us grace to live as those who feel that they are only sojourners here, and who are seeking a better home above. As strangers and

pilgrims may we abstain from those fleshly lusts which war against the soul.

We thank Thee for the many means which Thou hast provided for the promotion of our growth in grace and knowledge. Bless those means, we beseech Thee, to the good of our souls. Make Thy holy Word to be our nourishment, our guide, and the great source of our comfort. May it ever be as a lamp to our feet, and a light to our path. O Lord, Thou only art the fountain of light, and wisdom, and truth; open then our hearts to receive Thy Word, and thus lead us onward on our way to heaven.

When we look back upon the day past we see much to lament before Thee. 0 pardon our many sins and shortcomings. Cleanse Thou us from secret faults. Keep us back from presumptuous sins. Help us, O Lord, to serve Thee better, and to love Thee more heartily. Sanctify us wholly, body, soul, and spirit. Let us not be conformed to this world, but

transformed by the renewing of our minds. May Thy Holy Spirit enlighten our understandings, and purify our hearts.

And now that we are once more about to lie down to rest, grant peaceful repose to our bodies; and take our souls, O gracious Father, into Thy holy keeping. Let no vain and sinful thoughts fill our minds, and draw them away from Thee. May our nightly rest remind us of the sleep of death, to which we are each day drawing nearer. When Thou art pleased to call us, may we be found with our loins girded and our lamps burning as those who wait for their Lord. Whether we live may we live unto Thee, and whether we die may we die unto Thee, so that living or dying we inay be evermore Thine. O Lord, hear these our prayers, and grant unto us an answer of peace; for we come to Thee, trusting, not in our own righteousness, but in the merits and mediation of Jesus Christ our Saviour.

Our Father, which art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven. Give us this day [or, day by day] our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive them that trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil: for Thine is the kingdom, the power, and the glory, for ever and ever. Amen.

The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Ghost, be with us all evermore. Amen.

Ahursday Morning.

ALMIGHTY and most mer siful Father,

who of Thy tender love towards us didst send Thy Son, our Saviour Jesus Christ, to be our Advocate, hear us for His sake, and grant us the mercies which we need for another day.

Thou hast promised that all things which we shall ask in the Saviour's name, believing, we shall receive. O that we may more entirely trust Thy promises.

Mercifully bestow upon us, O Heavenly Father, that Holy Spirit which Thou hast promised to give to them that ask Thee. Remove the scales from our eyes. Take away our ignorance, our hardness and coldness of heart, and our too great love of this present world. Enlighten our un
