we pray Thee, daily bread for cur bodies, and daily grace for our souls.

Let us not live this day in vain. May we constantly be making some progress in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. May we, by Thy help, do all we can this day to promote Thy glory and the good of others.

Whilst we are in the world, O Lord, keep us from the evil of the world. Whilst we are busy in our earthly occupations, keep us mindful of eternal things. May we never forget that we are Thy servants, and that we are not our own, but have been bought with the price of the Saviour's precious blood.

Thy vows, O God, are upon us. We have been dedicated to Thee at our baptism. We are solemnly pledged to serve Thee. Give us grace to fulfil our vows, and to fight manfully under the banner of Christ against the world, the flesh, and the devil. Strengthen us especially to struggle against our besetting sins. Let

no sudden assault of the wicked one overcome us; but do Thou ever guard us against the power of his temptations.

Set a watch, O Lord, before our mouth, and keep the door of our lips, that we offend not with our tongues. Preserve us from all hasty, or unkind words; and so influence our hearts by Thy grace, that we may both speak and act as becometh Thy people.

Enable us to assist one another in spiritual as well as temporal things. Unite us together in brotherly love. Give us the ornament of a meek and quiet spirit. Teach us to bear one another's burdens, and so fulfil the law of Christ. Quicken us, O Lord, in Thy way. Thou knowest how apt we are to loiter on our road. O help us forward by the power of Thy grace.

Bless those whom we love; and if any of them as yet know Thee not, bring them nigh unto Thyself, and make them truly Thine.

These mercies, O Lord, we ask for our

selves and for others, in the name of Jesus Christ our Saviour. Amen.

Our Father, which art in Heaven, hallowed be Thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we for give them that trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation; but deliver us from evil: for Thine is the kingdom, the power, and the glory, for ever and Amen.

The Lord bless and keep us, the Lord make His face to shine upon us, and give us peace, now and evermore. Amen.

Wednesday Evening.

THOU that hearest prayer, to Thee do we come. Look down upon us in mercy, O God, and for Thy dear Son's sake hearken unto our cry.

We thank Thee for the blessings of another day. Thou art good, and doest good; Thou daily loadest us with benefits. But we are compelled to acknowledge with shame that we have made but poor returns for all the kindness which Thou hast so mercifully shown towards us. Whilst Thou hast thought of us, and cared for us, and watchel over us, we have been forgetful of Thee. Whilst Thou hast been blessing us, we have too often been grieving Thee by our waywardness and hardness of heart.

To us,

O Lord, pardon our ingratitude and rebellion. Heal our souls, for we have sinned against Thee. Forgive our pride, and worldliness of mind, our unbelief and unprofitableness. Forgive us that we have had so little delight in Thy holy Word, and have so little valued the precious privilege of Lord, belong shame and confusion of face; but to Thee, blessed be Thy name, belong mercies and forgiveness, though we have rebelled against Thee. O God, subdue the power of sin within us. Grant unto us a sincere hatred of what is evil; and fill us with earnest desires after holiness of heart and life.

Suffer us not, gracious Lord, to be satisfied with the mere form of godliness, but incline us by Thy grace to yield up our hearts, and to consecrate our lives, wholly to Thee. Make Thy Word quick and powerful for our guidance. Let its precious promises cheer us, and its wholesome precepts guide us continually.
