ness of our love. May Thy Holy Spirit take of the things of Christ and reveal them unto us, showing us the exceeding greatness of His love; and thus may our hearts be softened and melted into a deeper and more fervent love to Him. And as Christ pleased not Himself, so, O Lord, enable us by Thy grace to deny ourselves, and take up our cross, and fol low Him.

Thou knowest, O Heavenly Father, that we are greatly hindered in running our heavenly race. Our enemies are strong and subtle; our own strength is utter weakness; and our hearts are deceitful above all things. Send us help from above. Clothe us with Thy whole armour. Make us strong in Thee, and in the power of Thy might. And if at any time, through our weakness and frailty, we should fall into sin, do Thou restore our souls; bring us back to Thy paths; and let us neither be swallowed up by over-much sorrow, nor hardened

into indifference by the deceitfulness of sin.

Lord, we humbly seek Thy blessing on behalf of all whom we love. We pray Thee to lead them in Thy way. Let Thy good Spirit enlighten and sanctify them, bring them to the knowledge of the Saviour, and build them up in their most holy faith. May we, and all dear to us, be united to each other and to Thee in bonds which shall never be broken.

We are once more about to lie down to rest. Watch over us through the hours of darkness. Refresh us with peaceful sleep, and keep our minds free from anxious care and murmuring thoughts. O Thou keeper of Israel, who never slumberest nor sleepest, preserve our bodies and souls in safety. And when we lie down in the last sleep of death, may we have the presence of our good Shepherd with us, and when He appears wake up in His glorious likeness.

Grant unto us now, and whenever we pray to Thee, an answer of mercy and peace for the sake of Jesus Christ our Redeemer. Amen.

Our Father, which art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven. Give us this day [or, day by day] our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive them that trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation; but deliver us from evil for Thine is the kingdom, the power, and the glory, for ever and ever Amen.

Now unto the King eternal, immortal, invisible, the only wise God, be honour and glory, for ever and ever. Amen.

Saturday Morning.

GRACIOUS GOD, look down in mercy and loving-kindness upon us Thine unworthy servants, who now, in the name of Jesus Christ, approach Thy mercy-seat.

We come to ask Thee for Thy blessing, and to thank Thee for Thy kindness. Day unto day uttereth speech; and the speech of every day is that Thou art good, and kind, and gracious. Lord, fill our hearts with gratitude; and be graciously pleased to accept our imperfect prayers and thanksgivings.

We are entering upon the duties of another day. Give us the grace and wisdom that we need. Cause us to hear Thy loving-kindness in the morn

ing, for in Thee do we trust: cause us to know the way wherein we should walk, for we lift up our souls unto Thee Thou hast appointed unto us our several duties: O may we faithfully fulfil them as Thy servants. Keep us from being over-anxious about the favour of our fellow-creatures; may it rather be our study to show ourselves approved unto Thee. Deliver us from that fear of mar. which bringeth a snare; from all deceit fulness and guile; from pride, vainglory, and hypocrisy.

O Lord, sanctify us, we pray Thee, in body, soul, and spirit. Make us truly and entirely Thine. May our wills be brought into subjection to Thy will, and may we walk humbly with Thee all the day long.

We may this day be exposed to temptation; O do Thou shield us by Thine almighty power. Suffer us not by any inconsistency of conduct to bring a reproach upon our Christian profession. Grant unto us the blessing of a tender and en
