TO JOHN HOWLAND, ESQ.,

SIR,

I take the liberty to dedicate this humble effort to you, as one of the survivors of the Army of the Revolution, and one from whom I have received much valuable information relative to our Revolutionary History, and to whom I am indebted for many acts of kindness, hoping that it may meet with your indulgent approval, and assist to perpetuate the remembrance of that glorious struggle for liberty and independence in which Rhode Island took such a conspicuous part.

I am, very respectfully,

Providence, Feb. 9th, 1850.

Your obedient servant,

BENJAMIN COWELL.
