They reached the beach in safety, and fastened the other end of the rope to a large stake firmly driven in the ground, and thus were able to guide their life-boat back and forth, until all on board the ship were brought to the shore. Thus does the Gospel of Christ save poor sinners. Sin has ruined the world just as the storm drove the emigrant ship on shore. The Gospel comes like a life-boat, bounding over the

billows, and all are invited through it to be saved. Men, women, children, all may come, for provision has been made for all, and all are invited.

Children who are old enough to feel themselves sinners ought at once to seek after salvation. If you feel the danger in which sin has placed you, just as the poor wrecked emigrants felt their danger, remember that the Gospel invites you to come to Jesus, the children's friend.

Three Good Resolutions.

N the Juvenile department of the American Agriculturist, I find a copy of three resolutions which some youth known to Mr Judd has written in large letters and hung up in his sleeping-room. I will print them for your benefit.

"1. I will endeavour this day to do nothing which I believe I ought not to do.

"2. I will omit nothing which I ought to do.

66

"3. I will not parley with

temptation, and thus allow it to get the better of me, but will be careful to be on the right side, following the first intimations of conscience, and avoiding what may PERHAPS be wrong."

I advise you, my reader, to copy these rules, and hang them up in your chamber. Look at them the moment you awake, and then kneeling down, pray to Jesus for help to keep them. How many will do so?

Kind Words did it all.

'LL never speak to her again, that I won't; the spiteful thing, to go and talk against me in that way!" and tears came into Lizzie's eyes.

Hush, Lizzie !" said her sister, "are you quite sure

that your friend spoke against
you? had not you better make
inquiries before you deprive
Ellen of
your confidence?
Jane spoke gently, but
Lizzie saw the wisdom of the
advice. KIND WORDS SOON soft-
ened the harsh opinion she had
formed of her school-fellow.
