VII.-REFERENCES TO INDEFINITE APPROPRIATIONS.

Hereafter all moneys received as deposits to secure the purchase price on the sale of any products or the use of any land or resources of the forest reserves shall be covered into the Treasury in the manner provided by section 5 of the act of Congress approved February 1, 1905, entitled “An act providing for the transfer of forest reserves from the Department of the Interior to the Department of Agriculture," and the fund created by that act shall be available, as the Secretary of Agriculture may direct, to make refunds to depositors of money heretofore or hereafter deposited by them in excess of amounts actually due to the United States; and hereafter all moneys received as contributions toward cooperative work in forest investigations shall be covered into the Treasury and shall constitute a special fund, which is appropriated and made available until expended, as the Secretary of Agriculture may direct, for the payment of the expenses of said investigations by the Forest Service and for refunds to the contributors of amounts heretofore or hereafter paid in by them in excess of their share of the cost of said investigations. For maintenance of the agricultural experiment stations in Alaska, Hawaii, and Porto Rico, in addition to the specific appropriation therefor for 1907, the money received from sale of products obtained on the land belonging to said stations is appropriated. (Agricultural act, p. 28.)

For repayment of soldiers' deposits, so much as may be necessary for the fiscal year 1907 is appropriated. (Army act, p. 39.)

For salaries of ambassadors, ministers, consuls, and other officers of the United States for the periods actually and necessarily occupied in receiving instructions and in making transits to and from their posts, and while waiting recognition and authority to act, in pursuance of the provisions of section 1740 of the Revised Statutes, so much as may be necessary for the fiscal year 1907 is appropriated. For expenses of Commercial Bureau of American Republics, in addition to the specific appropriation therefor, any money received from sale of the Bureau's publications and from rents or other sources is appropriated. (Diplomatic and consular act, p. 59.)

To acquire, by purchase or condemnation, the land necessary for the extension of Monroe street with a width of 60 feet from Harrison street northward to the Anacostia River and of the south approach to the new Anacostia Bridge, with a width of 60 feet, to connect with said extension of Monroe street by a curve passing over the tracks of the Alexandria branch of the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad, so much as may be necessary to pay the expense of said condemnation proceedings and to pay any damages or excess of damages over benefits that may be allowed to owners of land taken is appropriated. (District of Columbia act, p. 74.)

For continuing the extension of the high-service system of water distribution in the District of Columbia, so much as may be available in the water fund during the fiscal year 1907, after providing for the expenditures for the water department in the District of Columbia appropriation act for that year, is appropriated. (District of Columbia act, p. 97.)

The Commissioner of Indian Affairs, under such rules and restrictions as he may prescribe, subject to the approval of the Secretary of the Interior, is authorized to lease such portion of the Chilocco Indian School Reservation as may not be required for school-farming purposes, and apply the proceeds to the maintenance and support of said school. (Indian act, p. 141.)

The Secretary of the Interior is authorized to sell, in such manner as he may deem best, for cash, 20 acres of land, described as the south half of the northeast quarter of the southeast quarter of section 36, township 10 north, range 3 east of the Indian meridian in Oklahoma, and apply the proceeds to the improvement of the Shawnee Indian Training School. (Indian act, p. 141.)

To carry out the provisions of the Indian appropriation act relating to the Stockbridge and Munsee tribe of Indians, the Secretary of the Treasury is directed to pay out of the Stockbridge consolidated fund in the Treasury of the United States, which fund, on the 31st of October, 1904, amounted to $75,988.60, under the direction and upon the warrant of the Secretary of the Interior. (Indian act, p. 162.)

For salaries of judges of circuit courts in Hawaii, at $3,000 each, for the fiscal year 1907, so much as may be necessary is appropriated. (Legislative, etc., act, p. 192.)

For preparation and publication of post-route maps, in addition to the specific appropriation therefor for 1907, the proceeds of sales of such maps to the public is appropriated. (Legislative, etc., act, p. 215.)

For salaries of United States judges retired under section 714 of the Revised Statutes, so much as may be necessary for the fiscal year 1907 is appropriated. (Legislative, etc., act, p. 222.)

For remodeling and modernizing the hospital buildings on the hospital grounds in Chelsea, Mass., the money derived from the sale of such portion of the magazine and said hospital grounds as is undesirable for hospital purposes is appropriated. (Naval act, p. 252.)

For refunding soldiers' deposits, so much as may be necessary for the fiscal year 1907 is appropriated. (Naval act, p. 263.)

For payment of interest on judgments against the District of Columbia, from the date said judgments became due until date of payment, a sufficient sum is appropriated. (Deficiency act, p. 365.)

To enable the Secretary of the Senate and the Clerk of the House of Representatives to pay to the officers and employees of the Senate and House borne on the annual and session rolls on the 1st day of June, 1906, including the Capitol police, the official reporters of the Senate and of the House, and W. A. Smith, Congressional Record clerk, for extra services during the first session of the Fifty-ninth Congress, a sum equal to one month's pay at the compensation then paid them by law is appropriated. (Deficiency act, p. 382.)

For payment of interest on final judgments and decrees rendered against the United States under the act of March 3, 1887, to provide for the bringing of suits against the Government of the United States, from the date thereof, a sufficient sum is appropriated. (Deficiency act, p. 386.)

To pay the interest, as authorized by law, at 5 per cent upon the several items of the judgment rendered by the Court of Claims on May 18, 1905, in consolidated causes No. 23199, The Cherokee Nation v. The United States; No. 23214, The Eastern Cherokees v. The United States, and No. 23212, The Eastern and Emigrant Cherokees v. The United States, aggregating a principal sum of $1,134,248.23, as therein set forth, such sum as may be necessary is appropriated. (Deficiency act, p. 386.)

For payment of the compensation and expenses of the commission and the compensation of the jurors and the amount of appraisements or awards of damages under the "Act to provide for payment of damages on account of changes in grade due to the elimination of grade crossings on the line of the Philadelphia, Baltimore and Washington Railroad Company," so much as may be necessary is appropriated out of the revenues of the District of Columbia, 50 per cent thereof to be refunded to said District of Columbia by the United States. (Act, June 29, 1906, sec. 7, p. 492.)

For payment of the amounts of judgments and awards for lands taken under the provisions of an "Act authorizing the extension of Rhode Island avenue northeast, District of Columbia, a sufficient sum is appropriated out of the revenues of the District of Columbia. (Act, Feb. 19, 1906, sec. 7, p. 499.)

For payment of the amounts of judgments and awards for lands taken under the provisions of an "Act for the extension of Euclid street in Meridian Hill," District of Columbia, a sufficient sum is appropriated out of the revenues of the District of Columbia. (Act, June 11, 1906, sec. 7, p. 501.)

For payment of the amounts of judgments and awards for lands taken under the provisions of an "Act authorizing the extension of Kalorama road northwest," District of Columbia, a sufficient sum is appropriated out of the revenues of the District of Columbia. (Act, June 29, 1906, sec. 2, p. 502.)

For continuing such schools as may have been established, and in establishing such new schools as the Secretary of the Interior may direct, in the Choctaw, Chickasaw, Cherokee, Creek, and Seminole tribes, such fees as have accrued or may hereafter accrue under the act of Congress approved February 19, 1903, Statutes at Large, volume 32, page 841, are appropriated. (Act, Apr. 26, 1906, sec. 10, p. 619.)

For the necessary expenses of appraisement and sale authorized by the "Act providing for the withdrawal from public entry of lands needed for town-site purposes in connection with irrigation projects under the reclamation act of June 17, 1902, and for other purposes," reclamation funds are authorized to the used, and the proceeds of such sales are required to be covered into the reclamation fund. (Act, Apr. 16, 1906, sec. 2, p. 647.)

The amounts received from towns or cities under contracts authorized to be entered into by the Secretary of the Interior for water rights, and the amounts received for leases of any surplus power or power privileges, are required to be covered into the reclamation fund. (Act, Apr. 16, 1906, secs. 4 and 5, p. 647.)

For payment to the State of California 5 per cent of the net proceeds of the cash sales of the public lands which have been heretofore made by the United States since the admission of said State, or may hereafter be made in said State, to aid in the support of the public or common schools of said State so much as may be necessary is appropriated. (Act, June 27, 1906, p. 653.)
