THE STATe medicaL ASSOCIATION OF TEXAS.

We are bringing out the April issue of the NEWS a little late this month in order to have the program of the next meeting of the State Medical Association for our readers. This meeting will be held in San Antonio on April 28, 29, 30 and May 1, 1903. Special rates have been made of one fare, plus 10 per cent., for the round trip. We desire to urge every physician in Texas, who can possibly do so to attend this meeting. They will see from the program, published elsewhere, that many important papers will be presented at this meeting. Another very important matter to engage the attention of the profession at San Antonio will be in reference to the reorganization of this association, in accordance with the recommendation of the American Medical Association.

We are reliably informed that Dr. J. N. McCormack, a representative of the American Medical Association, will assist us in so far as he can in reorganization of State societies, in the way of advising the members of the Association. We hope the Secretary of the American Medical Association, Dr. Simmons, will favor us with his presence. We notice from a perusal of the program, that the President. Dr. S. C. Red, has issued a call for a perliminary meeting in reference to reorganization, which is to take place in

San Antonio on Monday evening, April 27th, at 8 o'clock p. m., at Turner Hall. All railroads will have their special rates on in time for members who desire to be present at this perliminary meeting. We desire to urge as many members of the Association, as can possibly do so, to attend this preliminary meeting. While officially, we take it, no business can be transacted for the Association, still this preliminary meeting can do much, we hope, in properly adjusting and discussing the differences and the details in reference to the plan of reorganization, particularly with the advice and assistance of Dr. McCormack from the American Medical Association.

The status of the reorganization plan from the last meeting of the State Medical Association, was, that the majority and minority reports of the committee at the Dallas meeting should be published and sent to the different members of the Association, with the request that they give careful study and serious thought to the plan of reorganization, and come to San Antonio prepared to vote intelligently upon the question.

We sincerely hope a plan for reorganization will be adopted at the San Antonio meeting that will meet with the approval of the American Medical Association. In fact, we are of the opinion that either the majority or minority reports would not be seriously objected to by that body.

A large number of the Texas profession will attend the next meeting of the American Medical Association, in New Orleans. We think it would be the proper time to have the announcement made before that society that Texas was reorganized in accordance with their recommendations. There are many important matters to engage the attention of the Texas State Medical Association at this meeting in San Antonio, and we believe that it is the duty of every physician in Texas, who can possibly get away for a few days, to attend this meeting, and we trust to see all of the old members present, together with hundreds of new faces.

A BEAUTIFUL TRIBUTE TO DR. F. E. DANIEL,
OF AUSTIN.

We reproduce herewith a part of a beautiful tribute to our friend, Dr. F. E. Daniel, taken from the January issue of the Medical Mirror, and from the pen of its brilliant and talented editor, Dr. I. N. Love, formerly of St. Louis, now of New York

We had the pleasure of a dinner with Dr. Love the past summer at the noted Lotus Club; and we are reliably informed that he expects to attend the next meeting of the Texas State Medical Association.

We say amen to all Dr. Love says:

"By the way, this man Daniel is a striking character, take him from any side or all sides.

For years he was Secretary of the Texas State Medical Society, and connected with the Texas State Board Department. He has been an active, successful practitioner of medicine all these years, and the editor and owner of a state medical journal for nearly a quarter of a century that has been a red-letter record-breaker in more ways than one, producing a more profound impression upon
