Where

Note that in case of long thoroughfares important cross streets with corner numbers are given. With these numbers and by referring to the maps the location of any point in the city can readily be ascertained. The prefix West is given to all cross streets in the Twenty-third and Twenty-fourth Wards lying west of the avenue (known as Broadway) which runs from a point in the vicinity of Kingsbridge to Yonkers, and that the prefix East is given to all cross streets lying east of said avenue and the Harlem River.
