Chap. xxxi. Laban and Jacob contend. S

28 And haft not fuffered me to kifs my fons and my daughters? Thou haft now done foolishly in fo doing.

the cattle conceived, that I lifted up mine yes, and faw in a dream, and, behold, the rams which leaped upon the cattle there ring-ftraked, fpeckled, and grifled. 29 It is in the power of my hand 11 And the angel of God fpake unto to do you hurt: but the God of your faze in a dream, Jaying, Jacob: And Ither fpake unto mne yefternight, faying, ad, Here am 1.

12 And he faid, Lift up now thine eyes, ad fee, all the rams which leap upon the tattle are ring-ftraked, fpeckled, and grilled: for I have feen all that Laban

doeth unto thee.

13 I am the God of Bethel, where thon anointedst the pillar, and where thou vowedit a vow unto me: now arife, get thee out from this land, and return unto the land of thy kindred.

14 And Rachel and Leah answered and faid unto him, Is there yet any portion or inheritance for us in our father's house 15 Are we not counted of him ftrangers? for he hath fold us, and hath quite devoured alfo our money.

16 For all the riches which God hath taken from our father, that is our's, and our children's: now then whatfoever God hath faid unto thee, do.

17 Then Jacob rofe up, and fet his fons and his wives upon camels.

18 And he carried away all his cattle, and all his goods which he had gotten, the cattle of his getting, which he had gotten in Padandaram, for to go to Ifaac his father in the land of Canaan.

19 And Laban went to hear his fheep: and Rachel had ftolen the images that were her father's.

20 And Jacob flole away unawares to Laban the Syrian, in that he told him not that he Яed.

21 So he fled with all that he had; and he rofe up, and paffed over the river and fet his face toward the mount Gilead.

22 And it was told Laban on the third day that Jacob was fled.

Take thou heed that thou speak not to Jacob either good or bad.

30 And now, though thou wouldeft needs be gone, becaufe thou fore longedit after thy father's houfe, yet, wherefore haft thou ftolen my gods?

31 And Jacob anfwered. and faid to Laban, Because I was afraid : for I faid, Peradventure thou wouldeft take by force thy daughters from me.

32 With whomfoever thou findeft thy gods, let him not live: before our brethren difcern thou what is thine with me, and take it to thee. For Jacob knew not that Rachel had ftolen them.

33 And Laban went into Jacob's tent, and into Leah's tent, and into the two maid-fervants' tents; but he found them not. Then went he out of Leah's tent, and entered into Rachel's tent.

S4 Now Rachel had taken the images, and put them in the camels' furniture, and fat upon them. And Laban searched all the tent, but found them not.

35. And the faid to her father, Let it not difplease my lord that I cannot rife up before thee; for the cuftom of women is upon me. And he fearched, but found not the images.,

36 And Jacob was wroth, and chode with Laban and Jacob anfwered and faid to Laban, What is my trefpafs? What is my fin, that thou haft fo hotly pursued after me?

37 Whereas thou haft fearched all my tuff, what haft thou found of all thy houfehold ftuff? let it here before my brethren and thy brethren, that they may judge betwixt us both.

38 Thefe twenty years have I been with jour-thee: thy ewes and thy fhe-goats have not caft their young, and the rams of thy flock have I not eaten.

23 And he took his brethren with him, and purfued after him feven days ney and they overtook him in the mount Gilead.

And God came to Laban the Syrian in a dream by night, and faid unto him, Take heed that thou speak not to Jacobit either good or bad.

25 Then Laban overtook Jacob. Now Jacob had pitched his tent in the mount: and Laban with his brethren pitched in the mount of Gilead.

43 And Laban anfwered and faid unto Jacob, Trefe daughters are my daughters, and thefe children are my children, and befe cattle are my cattle, and all that thou feeft is mine: and, what can I do this day unto thefe my daughters, or unto their children which they have borne? 44 Now therefore come thou, let us make a covenant, I and thou; and let it be for a witnefs between me and thee. 45 And Jacob took a stone, and fet it up for a pillar.

46 And Jacob faid unto his brethren, Gather ftones; and they took ftones, and made an heap: and they did eat there upon the heap.

47 And Laban called it Jegarfahadntha: but Jacob called it Galeed.

5 And I have oxen, and affes, flocks and men-fervants, and women-fervants : and I have fent to tell my lord, that I may find grace in thy fight.

6 And the meffengers returned to Jacob, faying, We came to thy brother Efau, and alfo he cometh to meet thee, and four hundred men with him.

7 Then Jacob was greatly afraid and diftreffed and he divided the people that was with him, and the Blocks, and herds, and the camels, into two bands:

& And faid, If Efau come to the one company, and fmite it, then the other company which is left thall efcape.

50 If thou shalt afflict my daughters, qr if thou shalt take otherwives befides my daughters, no man is with us; fee, God is witness betwixt me and thee.

51 And Laban faid to Jacob, Behold this heap, and behold this pillar, which have caft betwixt me and thee.

52 This heap be witnefs, and this piilar be witnefs, that I will not pafs over this heap to thee, and that thou shalt not pafs over this heap and this pillar unto me, for

harm.

53 The God of Abraham, and the God of Nahor, the God of their father, judge betwixt us. And Jacob fwear by the fear of his father Ifaac.

54 Then Jacob offered facrifice upon the mount, and called his brethren to eat bread and they did eat bread, and tarried all night in the mount.

55 And early in the morning Laban rofe up and killed his fons and daughters, and bleffed them: and Laban departed, and returned unto his place.

CHAP. XXXII.

1 Jacob's vifion. 3 His message, 13 and prefent to Efau. 34 Wrefling with an angel be is called Ifrael.

AND Jacob went on his way, and the angels of God met him.

And when Jacob faw them, he faid, This is God's hoft: and he called the name of that place Mahanaim.

And he built there an altar, and called the place Elbethel: because there God appeared unto him, when he fled from the face of his brother.

25 And the fons of Bilhah, Rachel's hand-maid; Dan, and Naphtali:

26 And the fens of Zilpah, Leah's hand-maid; Gad, and Ather: thefe are the fons of Jacob, which were born to him in Padanaram.

27 And Jacob came unto Ifaac his father unto Mamre, unto the city of Arbah, which is Hebron, where Abraham and Ifaac fojourned.

28 1 And the days of Ifaac were an un-hundred and fourfcore years.

But Deborah Rebekah's nurse died, and the was buried beneath Bethel der an oak: and the name of it was called Allonbachuth.

9 And God appeared unto Jacob again, when he came out of Padanaram, and bleffed him.

10 And God faid unto him, Thy name is Jacob: thy name fhall not be called any more Jacob, but Ifrael thall be thy name: and he called his name Ifrael.

11 And God faid unto him, I am God Almighty be fruitful and multiply; a nation and a company of nations shall be of thee, and king's fhall come out of thy loins;

29 And Inc gave up the ghost, and died, and was gathered unto his people, being old and full of days: and his dons Efau and Jacob buried him.

21 Efau took his wives of the dangh ters of Canaan; Adah the daughter of Elon the Hittite, and, Aholibainah the daughter of Anah the daughter of Zibeon the Hivite

3 And Bathemath, Ishmael's daughter,

12 And the land which I gave A. braham and Ifaac, to thee I will give it,fifter of Nebajoth. and to thy feed after thee will I give the land.

18 And God went up from him in the place where he talked with him.

14 And Jacob fet up a pillar in the place where he talked with him, even a pillar of ftone: and he poured a drink offering) thereon, and he poured oil thereon.

15 And Jacob called the name of the place where God fpake with him, Bethel. 16 And they journeyed from Bethel; and there was but alittle way to come to Ephrath and Rachel travailed, and the had hard labour.

17 And it came to pafs, when he was in hard labour, that the mid-wife faid unto her, Fear not; thou thalt have this fonalfo. 18 And it came to pafs, as her foul was in departing, for the died, that he called his name Benoni; but his father called him Benjamin.

19 And Rachel died, and was buried in the way to Ephrath, which is Bethlehem. 20 And Jacob fat a pillar upon her grave: that is the pillar of Rachel's grave unto this day.

And it came to pafs, when Ifrael

4 And Adah bare to Efau Eliphaz; and Bafhemath bare Reuel:

5 And Aholibamah bare Jeuth, and Jaalam and Korah: thefe are the tons of Efau, which were born unto him in the land of Canaan.

61 And Efau took his wives, and his fons, and his daughters, and all the perfons of his houfe, and his cattle, and all his beafts, and all his fubftance, which he had gotten in the land of Canaan: and went into the country from the face of his brother Jacob.

7 For their riches were more than that they might dwell together; and the land wherein they were trangers could not bear them, because of their cattle.

8 Thus dwelt Efau in mount Seir; Efau is Edom.

91 And these are the generations of Efau, the father of the Edomites, in mount Seir:

10 Thefe are the names of Efau's fons, Eliphaz the fon of Adah the wife of Efau, Reuel the fon of Bafhemath the wife of Efau.

11 And the fons of Eliphaz were Teman, Omar, Zepho, and Gatam, and Kenaz.
