Matt. xviii, 18-35. Luke xvii, 5—10.

'Verily I say unto you, Whatsoever ye shall bind on earth shall be bound in heaven and whatsoever ye shall loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.

1Again I say unto you, That if two of you shall agree on earth as touching anything that they shall ask, it shall be done for them of my Father which is in heaven. For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them.

I

'Then came Peter to him, and said, Lord, how oft shall my brother sin against me, and I forgive him? till seven times? Jesus saith unto him, say not unto thee, Until seven times: but, Until seventy times seven. And the apostles said unto the Lord, Increase our faith. And the Lord said, If ye had faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye might say unto this sycamine tree, Be thou plucked up by the root, and be thou planted in the sea; and it should obey you.

10

But which of you, having a servant plowing or feeding cattle, will 15 say unto him by and by, when he is come from the field, Go and sit down to meat? and will not rather say unto him, Make ready wherewith I may sup, and gird thyself, and serve me, till I have eaten and drunken; and afterward thou shalt eat and drink? Doth he thank that servant because he did the things that were commanded him; I trow 20 not. So likewise ye, when ye shall have done all those things which are commanded you, say, We are unprofitable servants: we have done that which was our duty to do.

'Therefore is the kingdom of heaven likened unto a certain king, which would take account of his servants. And when he had begun to 25 reckon, one was brought unto him, which owed him ten thousand talents. But forasmuch as he had not to pay, his lord commanded him to be sold, and his wife, and children, and all that he had, and payment to be made. The servant therefore fell down and worshipped him, saying, Lord, have patience with me, and I will pay thee all. Then the lord of 30 that servant was moved with compassion, and loosed him, and forgave him the debt.

1But the same servant went out, and found one of his fellowservants, which owed him an hundred pence: and he laid hands on him, and took him by the throat, saying, Pay me that thou owest. And his fellow- 35 servant fell down at his feet, and besought him, saying, Have patience with me, and I will pay thee all. And he would not: but went and cast him into prison, till he should pay the debt.

'So when his fellowservants saw what was done, they were very sorry, and came and told unto their lord all that was done. Then his lord, 40 after that he had called him, said unto him, O thou wicked servant, Í forgave thee all that debt, because thou desiredst me: shouldest not thou also have had compassion on thy fellowservant, even as I had pity on thee? And his lord was wroth, and delivered him to the tormentors, till he should pay all that was due unto him.

'So likewise shall my heavenly Father do also unto you, if ye from your hearts forgive not every one his brother their trespasses.

Matt. xix, 1-12. Mark x, 1-12. Luke xvii, 11–20.

1And it came to pass, that when Jesus had finished these sayings, 'he arose from thence, 3and it came to pass, as he went to Jerusalem, that he passed through the midst of Samaria and Galilee, 'and 'departed from Galilee, and cometh into the coasts of Judæa by the farther side of Jordan: 'and great multitudes followed him, and the people resort 5 unto him again; 'and he healed them there, and, as he was wont, he taught them again.

2And the Pharisees came to him, and asked him, 'tempting him, and saying unto him, Is it lawful for a man to put away his wife for every cause? And he answered and said unto them, Have ye not read, that 10 he which made them at the beginning made them male and female, and said, For this cause shall a man leave father and mother, and shall cleave to his wife and they twain shall be one flesh? Wherefore they are no more twain, but one flesh. What therefore God hath joined together, let not man put asunder. What did Moses command you? And they 15 said, Moses suffered to write a bill of divorcement, and to put her away. 'Why did Moses then command to give a writing of divorcement, and to put her away? Jesus answered and said unto them, 1Moses because of the hardness of your hearts 2wrote you this precept, 'suffered you to put away your wives: but from the beginning it was not so, 20 'from the beginning of the creation God made them male and female. And in the house his disciples asked him again of the same matter. And he saith unto them, 'I say unto you, Whosoever shall put away his wife, except it be for fornication, and shall marry another, committeth adultery against her: 1and whoso marrieth her which is put away doth 25 commit adultery. And if a woman shall put away her husband, and be married to another, she committeth adultery. His disciples say unto him, If the case of the man be so with his wife, it is not good to marry. But he said unto them, All men cannot receive this saying, save they to whom it is given. For there are some eunuchs, which were so born from 30 their mother's womb and there are some eunuchs, which were made eunuchs of men: and there be eunuchs, which have made themselves eunuchs for the kingdom of heaven's sake. He that is able to receive it, let him receive it.

And as he entered into a certain village, there met him ten men that 35 were lepers, which stood afar off: and they lifted up their voices, and said, Jesus, Master, have mercy on us. And when he saw them, he said unto them, Go shew yourselves unto the priests. And it came to pass, that, as they went, they were cleansed. And one of them, when he saw that he was healed, turned back, and with a loud voice glorified 40 God, and fell down on his face at his feet, giving him thanks: and he was a Samaritan. And Jesus answering said, Were there not ten

cleansed? but where are the nine? There are not found that returned to give glory to God, save this stranger. And he said unto him, Arise, go thy way: thy faith hath made thee whole.

And when he was demanded of the Pharisees, when the kingdom of God should come, he answered them and said, The kingdom of God

cometh not with observation: neither shall they say, Lo, here! or, lo, there! for, behold, the kingdom of God is within you.

And he said unto the disciples, The days will come, when ye shall desire to see one of the days of the Son of man, and ye shall not see it. And they shall say to you, See here; or, see there: go not after them, 5 nor follow them. For as the lightning, that lighteneth out of the one part under heaven, shineth unto the other part under heaven; so shall also the Son of man be in his day. But first must he suffer many things, and be rejected of this generation. And as it was in the days of Noe, so shall it be also in the days of the Son of man. They did eat, they 10 drank, they married wives, they were given in marriage, until the day that Noe entered into the ark, and the flood came, and destroyed them all. Likewise also as it was in the days of Lot; they did eat, they drank, they bought, they sold, they planted, they builded; but the same day that Lot went out of Sodom it rained fire and brimstone from heaven, 15 and destroyed them all. Even thus shall it be in the day when the Son of man is revealed. In that day, he which shall be upon the housetop, and his stuff in the house, let him not come down to take it away: and he that is in the field, let him likewise not return back. Remember Lot's wife. Whosoever shall seek to save his life shall lose it; and whosoever 20 shall lose his life shall preserve it. I tell you, in that night there shall be two men in one bed; the one shall be taken, and the other shall be left. Two women shall be grinding together; the one shall be taken, and the other left. Two men shall be in the field; the one shall be taken, and the other left. And they answered and said unto him, 25 Where, Lord? And he said unto them, Wheresoever the body is, thither will the eagles be gathered together.

And he spake a parable unto them to this end, that men ought always to pray, and not to faint; saying, There was in a city a judge, which feared not God, neither regarded man: and there was a widow 30 in that city; and she came unto him, saying, Avenge me of mine adversary. And he would not for a while; but afterward he said within himself, Though I fear not God, nor regard man; yet because this widow troubleth me, I will avenge her, lest by her continual coming she weary me. And the Lord said, Hear what the unjust judge saith. 35 And shall not God avenge his own elect, which cry day and night unto him, though he bear long with them? I tell you that he will avenge them speedily. Nevertheless, when the Son of man cometh, shall he find faith on the earth?

And he spake this parable unto certain which trusted in themselves 40 that they were righteous, and despised others: Two men went up into the temple to pray; the one a Pharisee, and the other a publican. The Pharisee stood and prayed thus with himself, God, I thank thee, that I am not as other men are, extortioners, unjust, adulterers, or even as this publican. I fast twice in the week, I give tithes of all that I possess. 45 And the publican, standing afar off, would not lift up so much as his eyes unto heaven, but smote upon his breast, saying, God be merciful

3to me a sinner. I tell you, this man went down to his house justified rather than the other: for every one that exalteth himself shall be abased; and he that humbleth himself shall be exalted.

'Then were there brought unto him little children, young children, 3infants, 'that he should touch them, 'that he should put his hands on 5 them, and pray: 3but when his disciples saw it, they rebuked them that brought them. But when Jesus saw it, he was much displeased, and 'called them unto him, and said, Suffer little children to come unto me, and forbid them not: 'for of such is the kingdom of heaven, 3of such is the kingdom of God. Verily I say unto you, Whosoever shall not 10 receive the kingdom of God as a little child shall in no wise enter therein. And he took them up in his arms, 'and he laid his hands on them, and blessed them, 'and departed thence.

And when he was gone forth into the way, 'behold, there came one, 3a certain ruler, 'running, and kneeled to him, and asked him, 1and said 15 unto him, Good Master, what good thing shall I do, that I may have, 'that I may inherit eternal life? And Jesus said unto him, Why callest thou me good? there is none good but one, that is, God: 'but if thou wilt enter into life, keep the commandments. He saith unto him, Which? Jesus said, "Thou knowest the commandments, Do not com- 20 mit adultery, Do not kill, Do not steal, Do not bear false witness, Defraud not, 3Honour thy father and thy mother, 'and Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. The young man answered, 'saith unto him, 'Master, all these have I observed, all these things have I kept from my youth up: what lack I yet? Now when Jesus heard these things, 25 then Jesus beholding him loved him, and said unto him, 'Yet lackest thou one thing: if thou wilt be perfect, go thy way, sell 'all 'whatsoever thou hast, and give, 3and distribute unto the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven : 2and come, take up the cross, and follow me. 1But when the young man heard that saying, 'he was sad at that saying, 30 he was very sorrowful, and went away grieved, 'sorrowful: 'for he was very rich, for he had great possessions.

35

And when Jesus saw that he was very sorrowful, 'Jesus looked round about, and saith unto his disciples, How hardly shall they that have riches enter into the kingdom of God! 'verily I say unto you, That a rich man shall hardly enter into the kingdom of heaven. And the disciples were astonished at his words. But Jesus answereth again, and saith unto them, Children, how hard is it for them that trust in riches to enter into the kingdom of God! And again I say unto you, It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle, than for a rich man to 40 enter into the kingdom of God. When his disciples heard it, they were exceedingly amazed, and they were astonished out of measure, saying among themselves, they that heard it said, Who then can be saved? 'But Jesus 'looking upon them, 'beheld them, and said unto them, With men this is impossible, but not with God: the things which are impossible 45 with men are possible with God, 'for with God all things are possible. 'Then answered Peter and began to say unto him, 'Behold, we have

1forsaken, we have left all, and have followed thee; 'what shall we have therefore? And Jesus answered and 'said unto them, Verily I say unto you, That ye which have followed me, in the regeneration when the Son of man shall sit in the throne of his glory, ye also shall sit upon twelve thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel.

1And every one that hath forsaken houses, or brethren, or sisters, or father, or mother, or wife, or children, or lands, for my name's sake, shall receive an hundredfold, and shall inherit everlasting life. Verily I say unto you, There is no man that hath left house, or brethren, or sisters, or father, or mother, or wife, or children, or lands, for the kingdom of 10 God's sake, for my sake and the gospel's, but he shall receive an hundredfold, manifold more now in this present time, houses, and brethren, and sisters, and mothers, and children, and lands, with persecutions; and in the world to come 'shall inherit 'eternal, 'everlasting life. But many that are first shall be last; and the last shall be first.

'For the kingdom of heaven is like unto a man that is an householder, which went out early in the morning to hire labourers into his vineyard. And when he had agreed with the labourers for a penny a day, he sent them into his vineyard. And he went out about the third hour, and saw others standing idle in the marketplace, and said unto them; Go ye 20 also into the vineyard, and whatsoever is right I will give you. And they went their way. Again he went out about the sixth and ninth hour, and did likewise. And about the eleventh hour he went out, and found others standing idle, and saith unto them, Why stand ye here all the day idle? They say unto him, Because no man hath hired us. He 25 saith unto them, Go ye also into the vineyard; and whatsoever is right, that shall ye receive. So when even was come, the lord of the vineyard saith unto his steward, Call the labourers, and give them their hire, beginning from the last unto the first. And when they came that were hired about the eleventh hour, they received every man a penny. But 30 when the first came, they supposed that they should have received more; and they likewise received every man a penny. And when they had received it, they murmured against the goodman of the house, saying, These last have wrought but one hour, and thou hast made them equal unto us, which have borne the burden and heat of the day. But he 35 answered one of them, and said, Friend, I do thee no wrong: didst not thou agree with me for a penny? Take that thine is, and go thy way: I will give unto this last, even as unto thee. Is it not lawful for me to do what I will with mine own? Is thine eye evil, because I am good? So the last shall be first, and the first last: for many be called, but few 40 chosen.

Now a certain man was sick, named Lazarus, of Bethany, the town of Mary and her sister Martha. (It was that Mary which anointed the Lord with ointment, and wiped his feet with her hair, whose brother Lazarus was sick.) Therefore his sisters sent unto him, saying, Lord, 45 behold, he whom thou lovest is sick. When Jesus heard that, he said, This sickness is not unto death, but for the glory of God, that the Son
