Matt. xxi, 1-9. Mark xi, 1-10. Luke xix, 30-43. John xii, 12-15.

And on the next day, when they came nigh to Jerusalem, unto Bethphage and Bethany, at the mount of Olives, 'much people that were come to the feast, when they heard that Jesus was coming to Jerusalem, took branches of palm trees, and went forth to meet him, and cried, Hosanna: Blessed is the King of Israel that cometh in the name of 5 the Lord. 'Then sent Jesus two disciples, saying unto them, 'Go your way into the village over against you; in the which, 'straightway, as soon as ye be entered into it, 3at your entering ye shall find 1an ass tied, and a colt 3tied 1with her, 3whereon yet never man sat: 'loose them, and bring them unto me. And if any man say ought unto you, and 3ask 10 you, Why do ye loose him? why do ye this? thus shall ye say unto him, Because the Lord hath need of him; 'and straightway he will send them hither.

1All this was done, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophet, saying, Tell ye the daughter of Sion, Behold, thy King cometh 15 unto thee, meek, and sitting upon an ass, and a colt the foal of an ass.

1And the disciples, they that were sent went their way, and found even as he had said unto them, and found the colt tied by the door without in a place where two ways met; and they loose him, 'as Jesus commanded them. And as they were loosing the colt, the owners there- 20 of said unto them, Why loose ye the colt? and certain of them that stood there said unto them, What do ye, loosing the colt? And they said unto them, "The Lord hath need of him, 'even as Jesus had commanded: and they let them go. And they brought 'the ass, and the colt to Jesus: 3and they cast their garments upon the colt, and they set Jesus thereon, 25 2and he sat upon him.

And Jesus, when he had found a young ass, sat thereon; as it is written, Fear not, daughter of Sion: behold, thy King cometh, sitting on an ass's colt.

And as he went, 1a very great multitude spread their garments in the 30 way; others cut down branches from the trees, and strawed them in the way. And when he was come nigh, even now at the descent of the mount of Olives, 'the multitudes that went before, and they that followed, the whole multitude of the disciples began to rejoice and praise God with a loud voice for all the mighty works that they had seen; 'saying, 35 Hosanna to the Son of David, Hosanna; Blessed is he, the King that cometh in the name of the Lord: 3peace in heaven, and glory in the highest. Blessed be the kingdom of our father David, that cometh in the name of the Lord: Hosanna in the highest.

And some of the Pharisees from among the multitude said unto him, 40 Master, rebuke thy disciples. And he answered and said unto them, I tell you that, if these should hold their peace, the stones would immediately cry out.

And when he was come near, he beheld the city, and wept over it, saying, If thou hadst known, even thou, at least in this thy day, the 45 things which belong unto thy peace! but now they are hid from thine eyes. For the days shall come upon thee, that thine enemies shall cast

3a trench about thee, and compass thee round, and keep thee in on every side, and shall lay thee even with the ground, and thy children within thee; and they shall not leave in thee one stone upon another; because thou knewest not the time of thy visitation.

2And Jesus entered into Jerusalem, 1and when he was come into 5 Jerusalem, all the city was moved, saying, Who is this? And the multitude said, This is Jesus the prophet of Nazareth of Galilee.

'And Jesus went into the temple of God, and cast out all them that sold and bought in the temple, and overthrew the tables of the moneychangers, and the seats of them that sold doves, and said unto them, It 10 is written, My house shall be called, my house is the house of prayer: but ye have made it a den of thieves.

1And the blind and the lame came to him in the temple; and he healed them. And when the chief priests and scribes saw the wonderful things that he did, and the children crying in the temple, and saying, 15 Hosanna to the Son of David; they were sore displeased, and said unto him, Hearest thou what these say? And Jesus saith unto them, Yea; have ye never read, Out of the mouths of babes and sucklings thou hast perfected praise?

These things understood not his disciples at the first: but when Jesus 20 was glorified, then remembered they that these things were written of him, and that they had done these things unto him.

The people therefore that was with him when he called Lazarus out of his grave, and raised him from the dead, bare record. For this cause the people also met him, for that they heard that he had done this 25

miracle.

"The Pharisees therefore said among themselves, Perceive ye how ye prevail nothing? behold, the world is gone after him.

And there were certain Greeks among them that came up to worship at the feast: the same came therefore to Philip, which was of Bethsaida 30 of Galilee, and desired him, saying, Sir, we would see Jesus. Philip cometh and telleth Andrew: and again Andrew and Philip tell Jesus.

*And Jesus answered them, saying, The hour is come, that the Son of man should be glorified. Verily, verily, I say unto you, Except a corn of wheat fall into the ground and die, it abideth alone: but if it die, it 35 bringeth forth much fruit. He that loveth his life shall lose it; and he that hateth his life in this world shall keep it unto life eternal. man serve me, let him follow me; and where I am, there shall also my servant be: if any man serve me, him will my Father honour. my soul troubled; and what shall I say? Father, save me from this 40 hour: but for this cause came I unto this hour. Father, glorify thy name. Then came there a voice from heaven, saying, I have both glorified it, and will glorify it again. The people therefore, that stood by, and heard it, said that it thundered: others said, An angel spake to him. Jesus answered and said, This voice came not because of me, 45 but for your sakes. Now is the judgment of this world: now shall the prince of this world be cast out. And I, if I be lifted up from the earth,

"will draw all men unto me.

This he said, signifying what death he should die. The people answered him, We have heard out of the law that Christ abideth for ever: and how sayest thou, The Son of man must be lifted up? who is this Son of man? Then Jesus said unto them, Yet a little while is the light with you. Walk while ye have the 5 light, lest darkness come upon you: for he that walketh in darkness knoweth not whither he goeth. While ye have light, believe in the light, that ye may be the children of light. These things spake Jesus, and departed, and did hide himself from them.

'But though he had done so many miracles before them, yet they 10 believed not on him: that the saying of Esaias the prophet might be fulfilled, which he spake, Lord, who hath believed our report? and to whom hath the arm of the Lord been revealed? Therefore they could not believe, because that Esaias said again, He hath blinded their eyes, and hardened their heart; that they should not see with their eyes, nor 15 understand with their heart, and be converted, and I should heal them. These things said Esaias, when he saw his glory, and spake of him.

"Nevertheless among the chief rulers also many believed on him; but because of the Pharisees they did not confess him, lest they should be put out of the synagogue: for they loved the praise of men more than 28 the praise of God.

*Jesus cried and said, He that believeth on me, believeth not on me, but on him that sent me. And he that seeth me seeth him that sent me. I am come a light into the world, that whosoever believeth on me should not abide in darkness. And if any man hear my words, and believe not, 25 I judge him not: for I came not to judge the world, but to save the world. He that rejecteth me, and receiveth not my words, hath one that judgeth him : the word that I have spoken, the same shall judge him in the last day. For I have not spoken of myself; but the Father which sent me, he gave me a commandment, what I should say, and 30 what I should speak. And I know that his commandment is life everlasting: whatsoever I speak therefore, even as the Father said unto me, so I speak.

And when he had looked round about upon all things, and now the eventide was come, 'he left them, and went out of the city unto Bethany, 35 with the twelve; 'and he lodged there.

And now on the morrow, 'in the morning, when they were come from Bethany, as he returned into the city, he was hungry: and seeing a fig tree in the way, afar off having leaves, 1he came to it, if haply he might find any thing thereon; and when he came to it, he found nothing 40 'thereon 'but leaves 1only; for the time of figs was not yet. And Jesus answered and said unto it, No man eat fruit of thee hereafter for ever, 'let no fruit grow on thee henceforth for ever. And his disciples heard it, 'and presently the fig tree withered away.

And they came to Jerusalem: and Jesus went into the temple, and 45 began to cast out them that sold and bought in the temple, and overthrew the tables of the money-changers, and the seats of them that sold

2doves; and would not suffer that any man should carry any vessel through the temple. And he taught, saying unto them, Is it not written, My house shall be called of all nations the house of prayer? but ye have made it a den of thieves.

And the scribes and chief priests heard it, and sought how they might 5 destroy him: for they feared him, because all the people was astonished at his doctrine.

"And when even was come, he went out of the city.

*And in the morning, as they passed by, they saw the fig tree dried up from the roots. And when the disciples saw it, they marvelled, saying, 10 How soon is the fig tree withered away! And Peter calling to remembrance saith unto him, Master, behold, the fig tree which thou cursedst is withered away. And Jesus answering saith unto them, Have faith in God. For verily I say unto you, 1If ye have faith, and doubt not, ye shall not only do this which is done to the fig tree, but also that 1if 15 ye, whosoever shall say unto this mountain, Be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea; and shall not doubt in his heart, but shall believe that those things which he saith shall come to pass; 'it shall be done, *he shall have whatsoever he saith. 1And all things, whatsoever ye shall ask in prayer, believing, ye shall receive.

"Therefore I say unto you, What things soever ye desire, when ye pray, believe that ye receive them, and ye shall have them.

20

And when ye stand praying, forgive, if ye have ought against any: that your Father also which is in heaven may forgive you your trespasses. But if ye do not forgive, neither will your Father which is in heaven 25 forgive your trespasses.

And he taught daily in the temple. But the chief priests and the scribes and the chief of the people sought to destroy him, and could not find what they might do: for all the people were very attentive to hear him.

And it came to pass, that on one of those days, 'when he was come 30 2again to Jerusalem, 'into the temple, as he taught the people in the temple, and preached the gospel, and as he was walking in the temple, "the chief priests and the scribes came upon him, 'and 'with 'the elders of the people came unto him as he was teaching, and spake unto him, saying, Tell us, by what authority doest thou these things? or who is 35 he that gave thee this authority to do these things? And Jesus answered and said unto them, I will also ask of you one question, 'one thing, which if ye tell me, I in like wise will tell you by what authority I do these things; and answer me: 'The baptism of John, whence was it? 2was it from heaven, or of men? answer me. And they reasoned with 40 themselves, saying, If we shall say, From heaven; he will say 1unto us, "Why then did ye not believe him? but if we shall say, Of men; 1we fear the people, all the people will stone us, for they be persuaded, Jall hold John as a prophet, 'they feared the people: for all men counted John, that he was a prophet indeed. And they answered and said 45 unto Jesus, We cannot tell whence it was. And Jesus answering saith unto them, 'Neither tell I you by what authority I do these things.

Matt. xxi, 28-42. Mark xii, 1-10. Luke xx, 9-17.

'But what think ye? A certain man had two sons; and he came to the first, and said, Son, go work to-day in my vineyard. He answered and said, I will not: but afterward he repented, and went. And he came to the second, and said likewise. And he answered and said, I go, sir and went not. Whether of them twain did the will of his 5 father? They say unto him, The first.

'Jesus saith unto them, Verily I say unto you, That the publicans and the harlots go into the kingdom of God before you. For John came unto you in the way of righteousness, and ye believed him not; but the publicans and the harlots believed him: and ye, when ye had seen it, 10 repented not afterward, that ye might believe him.

And he began to speak unto them by parables. Then began he to speak to the people this parable, 'hear another parable: There was 2a certain man, 1a certain householder, which planted a vineyard, 'and set an hedge about it, 'and hedged it round about, and digged a wine-press 15 in it, and digged a place for the winefat, and built a tower, and let it out to husbandmen, and went into a far country 3for a long time. And at the season 'when the time of the fruit drew near, he sent to the husbandmen a servant, that he might receive from the husbandmen of the fruit of the vineyard: but the husbandmen caught him, and beat him, 20 and sent him away empty. And again he sent unto them another servant; and at him they cast stones, and they beat him also, and wounded him in the head, and entreated him shamefully, and sent him away empty, shamefully handled. And again he sent a third: and they wounded him also, and cast him out. And again he sent another, and 25 him they killed: 1again, he sent many 1other servants more than the first and they did unto them likewise, beating some, and killing some.

Then said the lord of the vineyard, What shall I do? I will send my beloved son: it may be they will reverence him when they see him. "Having yet therefore one son, his wellbeloved, he sent him also last 30 unto them, 'last of all he sent unto them his son, saying, They will reverence my son. 1But when the husbandmen saw the son, they said among themselves, they reasoned among themselves, saying, This is the heir: come, let us kill him, 'and let us seize on his inheritance, that the inheritance may be ours, let us kill him, and the inheritance shall be 35 ours. And they caught him, and they took him, 'and cast him out of the vineyard, and slew, and killed him.

1When the lord therefore of the vineyard cometh, what will he do unto those husbandmen? They say unto him, He will miserably destroy those wicked men, and will let out his vineyard unto other husbandmen, 40 which shall render him the fruits in their seasons. Jesus saith unto them, he will come, and destroy the husbandmen, 3he shall come and destroy these husbandmen, and shall give the vineyard to others. And when they heard it, they said, God forbid.

And he beheld them, and said, What is this then that is written, 45 'did ye never read in the scriptures, have ye not read this scripture, 'The stone which the builders rejected, the same is become the head of the
