FOR LOVERS AND OTHERS

By JAMES TERRY WHITE

These Rose Thoughts-while they are addressed

To Lovers and Others

Are mostly in lavendar pressed,

For Others-ONCE Lovers.

Note Its Great Beauty and Desirableness
What the Book Is

For All Occasions

FOR LOVERS AND OTHERS is a delightful book of exquisite verse commemorating the Affection days throughout a lifetime. There are EIGHTY such Occasions. It is a Gift Book of Daily Happenings, such as Weddings, Birthdays, Graduation Days, Partings, Consolation for the Death of a Friend, The Birth of a Child, Friend to Friend Greetings, as well as the Formal Anniversaries, like Easter, Christmas, Thanksgiving, etc. It is like a Bouquet of Flowers picked especially for every Occasion. But the Author promises that while "A Rose blooms only for a few short hours, The Roses from THIS BOOK will never fade."

Its Personal Touch

There is personal touch and significance given to the book by having a beautiful Bookmark personifying Affection, to indicate the special

Occasion the donor wishes to commemorate.
It says:

O generous Giver, I would point the Way-
Thy Heart would lead--

TO WHERE-commemorating a Fair Day

The setting of the book is a Poem in itself. It is a marvel of beauty, not only for the elegance of its exterior which lures the book lover, but in its exquisite heart-moving Verse, which is full of quotable lines which one immediately desires to send to his friends. All know how hard it is to write a letter of consolation, and would welcome a satisfying word to send to a bereaved friend. The flavor of the book is indicated by the Hyacinth Verse on the title page. If thou of fortune be bereft,

And in thy store there be but left

Two loaves,-sell one, and with the dole
Buy Hyacinths, to feed the soul.

And there are many of such verses, which keep singing in the heart, recalling delightful memories. The entire book is a delight, and the secret of its delightfulness may be summed up in two of its lines:

"How can I ever be alone

When MEMORY remains ?"

The author plays upon the chords of tenderness with rare touch and has produced a book,

Thy Friend will find Rose Thoughts, that, haply, may which fulfills its avowed purpose "to prepare

Grace present need.

[blocks in formation]

To which Affection would direct thy gaze,-
If, haply, thy Heart's Need may find a phrase
To Feed thy Soul.

Something New

A novel embellishment is the Sky and Cloud
background to the Verse showing the gradual
change of coloring from "Dawn to Sunset."
The last glimmer of color fades with the Verse.
The Day is done, and the Shadow
Steals slowly across my heart;-
BUT WE SHALL MEET IN THE MORNING,
And meet never more to part.

for Heart Memories an abiding place, to which it may charm them back, and perchance betray them to captivity."

A Clever Device

In a Sextet at the end of the Book the Author divulges the secret for whom the Verses are written:

For whom are these Rose-Verses made?
Ought one a woman's heart parade-
Reveal the secret here concealed?

Yet all, her worthiness will yield,
Once her identity is seen
Under this Acrostic's screen.

For a Graduation Gift

It meets the wise custom of making a gift to GRADUATES of Grammar and High Schools for it has a soul-searching appeal to the best that lies always in the heart of youth, which cannot fail to touch the chord of action and strengthen the ideals of purpose; while the whole book is a record of experiences, which show the path to righteousness.

A Delight to Every Mother

"Heaven Not Far Away" is what the Child-Soul, at its birth, says to every Mother's heart; and every Mother will treasure it, as opening a new meaning to Motherhood, and a new vision of Love's blessedness. When first written, so many asked for a copy that the author printed and gave away over 6000 copies. "Eye Hath Not Seen" is a beautiful application of Maeterlinck's "Blue Bird." "Memories" is especially tender and touching.

The Character Development League is glad to distribute this beautiful book, which exhibits, in delightful form, the characteristics exemplified in "Character Lessons," and upon application will forward the book, postage paid, upon receipt of the price.

20 Illustrations, 148 pages, 12mo. illuminated cover, tinted background representing "From Dawn to Sunset," in box. Price $1.00net; flexible morocco $2.50., prepaid
