How did I miss this book my entire life? I always thought it was for the very young, but I saw it at the library by chance and realized it was a book for older readers. So I checked it out, and read it today. How dismayed I was to find it a struggle to plow through. And yes, yes, I get it, it's an allegory about grown-ups and it is a children's book but if I was a child I would have been bored and sort of creeped out. I felt very bad about this, since this is a classic that everyone adores, so how relieved I was to see 9000 one star reviews and discover that I was not alone in failing to be enchanted.
